I understand, we aren't judged by our words, but by our service.
We intend to upgrade the current "weakest link in the chain" tomorrow, which we hope will improve performance.

Please still answer the question of why you can run sites larger than Rennlist, yest still claim it's the size of Rennlist that causes the problems?

Matt, I think the problem was the 486 server they used for RL. The good stuff was used for the 'vette and harley forums

ltc lent them a Bose processor left over from his Cayenne and that seems to work better except for the occasional random "!" icon...

Matt - the resources we allocate to each site is dependent upon the requirements for each site, I probably worded it incorrectly when I said "size", it is "growth in size" that is the issue.
Typically those requirements don't change a great deal, and we build in scope for expansion.
As you can see below, the number of visitors to Rennlist has close to doubled in the last 6 months, something our initial hardware allocations were not scaled for.

So the board is even worse now...if that was even possible. I was trying to reply to PM's about items I have for sale and it took several hours before I could finally send them without them trying to time-out or error.

It just seems like each fix makes things worse at this point!

If you are still having issues with the site, if you would be able to do the following it would be muchly appreciated!
  1. Take a screenshot of the issue
  2. Do a traceroute (if you know how!)
  3. e-mail it to me!
adrian.harris@internetbrands.com

I will make sure we sort it out for you!
Thanks!

Well, it would just be a screenshot of a page taking forever to load and then finally failing to load. Things have been better today though.

Because growth is not part of most business plans.

Any way to post a 2 or 3 year trend?

Daniel,

You can check out http://www.quantcast.com/rennlist.com#traffic
to get a snapshot of the last six months or so. Note the sharp drop in traffic in November when we suffered the DoS attack. Note too the increase in traffic over time. I'm not sure this trend will continue, but visits are up rather nicely in spite of what some people seem to think.

best,

Daniel,
I do not have access to any traffic information prior to IB hosting Rennlist (which occurred approx 7/1/08)
Here is as far back as our reporting goes, you will note the "dips" due to site performance issues (particularly the past week), but the site has seen around a 50% increase in the past 6months (and as you can see, this was inconsistent with previous trends, hence our inability to "plan for growth" appropriately), however when issues were identified with performance more recently we made our best efforts to acquire and install the necessary hardware to support the increase in as timely manner as possible, feedback since the application of this greater capacity hardware seems to indicate this has rectified the concerns.
There have been some performance issues that have still been present outside of our hardware capabilities as we are still under a DDOS attack and we are working a balance of managing the incoming traffic to ensure that no users are blocked, but "malicious" traffic is restricted.
Hopefully you have seen improvements over the past couple of days in that regard.

Best regards,
Adrian
