This one seems to have a career in these forums.

Looks like that was taken care of already. Please report these in the future by using the red triangle icon located on any of their posts or private messages!

Thanks for the update. In my particular case, I only received the email and no other type of communication; no private messages, or an approach by the scammer on the Marketplace thread.

@festina-lente by "the email" do you mean an email similar to what was screenshotted above, where Rennlist is sending you a notification that you received a PM with the content of the PM in it?

If so, then they sent you a private message, but that message was deleted when the account was found and removed.

Otherwise, if they emailed you directly, then they found your email address somehow. Usually it's from a post you made a long time ago in public. Sometimes they go as far as looking up your username on other forums to see if you posted an email address there.

Same , I just got a PM from user Chfhh asking me to email luckman09876@gmail.com

How do we prevent these scams from happening?

You have received a new private message at Rennlist - Porsche Discussion Forums from Chfhh, entitled "992 RS Spyder Rims".

To read the original version, respond to, or delete this message, you must log in here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/private.php

This is the message that was sent:

Can ship on time brother …Shot me a text luckman09876@gmail.com for better discussion

@mlrtime3 ,

What you have pasted is the notification of a private message sent to you on Rennlist. If you go to your message inbox and open the message up you can report it using the red triangle icon located on the top right of the message which will alert us of the incident.

In the case of Chfhh, it looks like the account was discovered and removed on the 29th.

As far as prevention, this sticky post explains the basic measures to take in bold. Basically, make sure you're talking to the seller of the item you are interested in via private message on Rennlist. The private message you receive should also have a banner up top warning you that the message is from a new account, pictured below:

I tried this but the DM was gone by the time I figured out it was a scam. Was this because the user deleted the DM or Rennlist deleted the user?

I think maybe an account has been hacked and a scammer may be trying to sell wheels here:

https://rennlist.com/forums/market/1388106

I didn't report it because I am not 100% certain.

@CTDan there are no repercussions or retaliation for reporting posts -- please, if you have any suspicions, don't hesitate to report! We'll check into it and, only if necessary, take administrative action. If it's a false alarm or things check out on our end, no action will be taken.
