Is it the car, the driver, or the team that wins a race?

Is it the money, timing, talent, or connections that land you a seat in F1?

Both have the same answer... it takes everything in the list, then a whole bunch of luck and things out of your control. Sure having lots of one area may balance some missing aspect of others, but anybody who believes it takes just $$$$ or just talent needs to crawl back into the low IQ hole you came from...

Stroll capitalized on a great opportunity to be on an F1 podium, good for him. We all know he will have to work *REALLY* hard and have luck on his side to make it happen ever again. For the benefit of Canadian Motorsports, I hope he does... and I hope he brings connections and $$$ back to Canada, not move to Monaco or something like that.

And maybe talk Papa into giving all R'Listers free track time @ LeCircuit

One point that's getting lost in the sauce through all this discussion is that the kid is doing all this on tracks he's never raced on before; yeah, there's the sim, but the sim ain't the same.....

I think there's more to be said about Stroll not losing his cool and blowing the opportunity. There was enough pressure at the end to make many drivers commit an error.

For sure it was a race of attrition, but he kept his cool, and a mostly error-free drive earned him a podium in his rookie season. Not too bad, regardless of the money invested...

Shows you the difference in power in that Mercedes. I'm sure the kid was flat out down the last straight and the merc caught and passed using slipstream of course.

Now if he had left the roof on his car...
