Backdated Cars and New Certification Rules in Ontario
I have been curious about how backdated cars would get a certification in Ontario. With the new certification rules, if I read it correctly, the cars need to have their bumpers intact. Not sure if there have been any issues for anyone doing this?

I was wondering this as well; good question. I'm looking at modifying my 88, not necessarily to backdate but new bumpers and other cosmetic mods and am worried about safety and insurance.

Who is going to say whether a 964 has 964 or 911 bumpers? Take it to Canadian tire to be certified and I doubt they'd have a clue. It's not like the 911 bumpers have dates stamped on them...

There are many cars that have been backdated. Some have been done to 964 cars. Most have been done to the 74-89 cars. They have been made to look like the long hood cars such as the RSR or RS.
The certification rules state that the bumper must be intact. To do these mods and try to get it certified, and not succeed would be a costly mistake. The early cars did not have a bumper, or at least not a bumper compared to the "impact bumper" cars.
Perhaps if you try to certify it as 73 they could do it? However, the VIN would say differently.

I'll be extremely surprised if the average mechanic doing the certification knows or cares if the bumper is stock. All they are going to check is if there is a bumper and if it's not bent, crushed or cracked.

^ +1, there's no issue IMHO....
....and, there's still lots of 'safeties' running around....
