Default Windshield replacement

So took a huge rock on the QEW and big crack has started.
It's a 997.1.
Live in Niagara but guessing dealer is the best bet? Quoted me around 900 for the windshield plus labour.

Did you check with your insurance? I cracked mine back in July and it cost me $50 to have it replaced. The guy did it in my driveway.

He just did my friends 951 at his house in St. Catherines. He knows Porsche well.

My buddy with the 951 had to call him a few times as well. But not calling people back only damages his business. Too bad cause he is a super nice guy and does good work.

just got new glass in a Lexus yesterday for $180 cash and it is really nice. Mantis uses the auto glass behind his shop and they were reasonable a couple years ago $250 for the 951, I think it is Apple auto glass.

cracked windshield on the X5 last year in Florida. Had to replace at dealer as I didn't know anyone local and didn't want to drive home with it. 2700 USD. Even insurance didn't believe me. 1500 for the glass plus labour. And it leaked. Had to have it redone at home.

His name was Ralph. 416-888-8319

I called Pfaff and told them I needed a windshield. They said that Ralph is the guy that they use to do all of theirs and gave me his number.

He used an OEM windshield because there's apparently no aftermarket option for the 981's.

Did the work in my driveway. Overall a good experience.

he did mine once with Pilkington Glass it was not the best quality, ended up going back to OEM. I suggest Factory Porsche Glass, I'm on my 4 Windshield

^hey Zook,
Curious what was bad about the Pilkington glass? It is OEM on a number of Euro car brands
I'm still on my original windshield in the GT2 at 98.5km...just got the first very small rock scratch/abrasion yesterday, surprised it's taken so long

it maybe be Original but all brands have a A, B & C Quality of their product for different regions and markets... I think I got the "C", it was way to soft and pitted real quick and had waves in it. and it was USA made

when I ordered the Glass from Porsche I specifically asked for the Saint-Globin Made in Belgium not the Made in Slovakia one, they had to order twice for me from Germany

I got mine done at EU autowerks. Not sure who they used but it cracked like when improper install is done when it is too tight. Also lot had of creaking after the install that I ignored until it did finally just get jarred enough to crack.
