I was told these were the recommended break in procedures from LN. The mechanic put 8hrs on the 1st oil and I am putting 1600kms on the run in oil. Then it is changed and I think its good to go

Where did you see these instructions?

Look under the FAQ on oils section on the LN site. It's a link to an external site. Interesting read with some examples.

^^ I did read that section but understood it to be for aircooled engines (although there may be no difference).

I also have seen that guys article referenced a bunch of times on various forums but other then his claim that he has used it on 300 engines what real evidence is there?? I have no idea who this guy is??

But I do know who LN are and I have been told these are the specific recommendations from LN who did my block and supplied the piston, rings, rods etc. So since I am getting a 24/24 warranty I am going to follow his instructions for the break in.

If the next guy wants to repeatedly redline his engine for his break in, based on some guys opinion on the internet, then let him have at it

Cheers

Cheers

^ I completely agree, I just find it odd that LN would provide a link to that site on their website instead of giving their own detailed account of how they think it should be done.

I re-read that link and here is part of what he said:

"There's a very small window of opportunity to get the rings to seal really well ... the first 20 miles !!"

So that window is passed. My mechanic did take it out and make repeated runs up and down the rev band, decelerating as described etc so I assume the ring are seated. It has not burned any oil in the 600kms I have done so far or at least not enough to register any drop in bars

Here is also what Motoman posted:

"Here is a compilation of over one thousand of my favorite music videos
from the '60's, '70's, '80's, '90's, '00's and '10's

Keep reading the Break-In Secrets article, but please check out the new page -- I really think you'll like it !!

~ MotoMan"

Soooo, maybe he's right but this causes me to think twice
