Barrett-Jackson - anyone watching?
I'm keen to see the Friday, Saturday and Sunday sales.
Notably I'm interested in seeing what happens when NSX001 is auctioned off for charity. The car on stage won't be the one but an example of what the person can order (serial 001 is given to the first production car I believe).

They had a 930 DP go for 100k last night. Sat has a few Porsche's going across the block. Just looking at the price of avg US iron (not the 'specials), the bloom seems to be off these cars. People were buying cars on Wed nights show for under 20k for 1950's era and that price didn't even cover the paint and chrome costs so it looks like estate sales and guys getting out at any price. Last night you could buy an early well restored T-bird 30k. (all US pricing)
I think the days of the 5M Ferrari's at this show are almost over and cars at this price point seem to be selling in London, Monaco or private broker.
Anyone else think Craig Jackson was looking really ill?

Odd I thought the same thing...could be stress? I heard the numbers are already down this year. A friend of mine is there and he too commented about cars crossing the block in which owners must be losing their shirts on as the restoration can't be covered.
Your example of the T-Birds and other American muscle going for 30's...on the mark. Did you see the guy high five'ing everyone around him when he stole a rare Chevelle for mid-30's?!?!

Are sales down or have a large sum of the old people passed away and maybe some of the old mogul dealership owners just not buying as much to show off their millions.

I think your right about these old dealer moguls as they are getting out of the business and the cash flow and business write offs for buying these cars 'for promotion' isn't there any more. And the younger 3rd or 4th wife (snickering) doesn't give a crap about 'all these cars' and its cash baby, all day long, ship'em off!
If you look at the demographic in the seats - gosh, many of these guys are in their 70's or older. Some may be buying their dream car for their kids or a last gasp but these cars will be back inside of 10 years and will sell for a lower price as the .com and app start up kids don't care too much for American 60's and 70's cars. Forget about the really old cars as they are a real niche market.
They sold a Fisker-Karma tonight (nice car) for 55k and then told the viewers that replacement batteries can't be found OOPS!
The clientele is passing on and the companies must change to newer cars with more European content needed or see the sales numbers drop. They can always sell a 68 Mach 1 at 40k all day long but the heady days of the same car in 2008 selling for 100k are gone.
Mega cars always sell very well to the hedge fund / trust fund guys that want the 550's, 904's, 250 Testa Rossa, Type 35's etc but this isn't that type of auction clientele. Those buyers are in Dubai.

Anyone know what the tax recovery rate on 'donations' is in the US? I guess it depends on income but there must be a maximum number you can claim if you give away a vehicle? I'm also confused by the announcers claim that buying a 'charity' vehicle gets you a tax credit on top of the car. Really? I know if you receive a 'benefit' from any tax deduction here that the deduction is denied by Rev Canada.

but, in California Bob Lutz will yank the stock engines and replace 'em with a ZR-1 Vette motor yielding, arguably, the smokenist 4 seater exotic around.
