I just raided our pantry before we left. Took all of 5 mins to put together our donation and thanks to my my wife, everything was organic, fair trade, etc... (no Clive, I did not include any Grey Poupon!)

I would suggest that the food bank people could also have a cash (or cheque) donation container. I don't think that people maliciously decided against donating, I think they simply forgot and given the opportunity, would have been more than happy to make an equivalent cash contribution on the spot.

When I brought over the bag my wife put together, I was disappointed that nothing was in the trailer and there must have been 20 cars there already. I think cash could have been collected as well.

It isn't that we have to donate. But most of us are in a position that we can!

I would have done both if the opportunity to give money was there at the time. Most of us went for a $30.00 meal afterword. We can all afford to drop $100.00 in for donation.

I basically shopped the list Clive put up and brought that, as it seemed relevant to what they needed. Unsurprisingly, there was not any evidence of Baby formula in the pantry, for instance...

Made my 7year old drag the bag over to the food bank trailer just before the drive started. Filled a reusable shopping bag from our pantry the night before and put the car key in it so I won't forget it in the morning. Worked well.

I like the idea that we make it a requirement. Why don't we make a stop on our travels to one of the many food banks in the area where we can drop off the food personally? If we're going to drive through peoples communities then this is the perfect way to give back and it makes it more 'personal' to each person giving.

Doug it is actually on the run .. it is right where you approach that closed off road that Christien pointed out heading into NOTL .

problem is its a smallish building deeded to them from a local winery with almost no parking and its literally 10 minutes into the run so would mean everyone stopping again .

In conclusion I think we all agree we could have done better and im not here to beat anyone up over it so lets just close it off for now and revisit this thread next year.

Again my many thanks to those who really dug deep to make this last minute idea last year a reality this year.

if we make the local paper again I will post it here .

Can you not post a link to where people can donate online now?

The point was for the people who showed up with nothing on your drive to donate and for me to as well. Post the link to that place .
