Default OT: Winter Tires online

Anyone buy tires from PMC out of Quebec?

I'm not in the GTA, and getting to Simply is not possible this year. Kids are in rep Hockey and Ringette, and we're at the rink for like 10+hrs / week. plus 8 tournaments....

Seems like good pricing and purolated to our door......

Thinking about trying Sailun WSL2 this year..... had Hankook iPike, Firestone Winterforce (hated) - came with a set of snows on alloys... most recently.

This is for my DD '06 Jetta TDI with the Malone Stage 1.5 tune.... 600km of snow belt driving /week for work. plus 200-300km/week going to rinks...

You pollute the world with that much driving with a VW diesel?!? How dare you!! Think of the children!!

I always find Blizzaks are great... I try to go with the thinnest tire that can handle the load and fit on the rims. My Merc C350 looks funny with 210s all around on 6 inch rims... but wow does it handle well in the snow and ice!

What are you going to save ordering from Quebec? I'm sure you could get 16" rubber and rims for 8oo just about anywhere.
Cheap thrils in Milton is my go to tire shop. 905-878-6853. It's not pretty. Surely you could find something in KW. You should buy new. At 1000/wk x 20 weeks. You could be burning through a new set of snows.
Anything on Kijijijijij ? I can't see the sight from the work firewall.
Ordering from Quebec? If you have a problem, I'm sure the money saved will be burnt through twice, for trying to return.

To answer the question, I bought winter tires from PMC for my C63 and they were great to deal with. They were the only place that had the specific tire/size I needed and their ordering + shipping process was very easy. I'd recommend them for sure even if you may be able to get slightly better pricing somewhere in the GTA.

There is a wholesaler on kijiiji locally that will sell tires from his warehouse for $417 tax in in the size I need (205/55r16), but I work out of town, and would be pressed to catch him before he closes at 5pm on weekdays.

Looking at the website, I can get them dropped off at my door for $380.

What's the deal with these Sailun tires? Seeing them around now more and more, but aren't they Chinese knock offs? I could be totally off base here.

They're from China, and black and round, apparently comparable to hankook, maybe Toyo etc.

I'm willing to give them a try. If the weather is really bad, I can usually work from home.

Last winter with it being so cold, my roads were hard pack snow on asphalt for a couple weeks straight.

I'm hoping for decent grip and quieter than the scalloped winter force tires that I had on last winter.

Read some reviews. Feedback is decent. Good for the price basically.

Try king star tires if they're for a Jetta

205-55-16 General Altima Arctic are the choice of the Vee Dubbers that I know. People try other makes but they seem to go keep going back to the Generals.

You can get away with 196-60-16s. They will cut through show better and are cheaper too. That's what I run on the wife's '06 Jetta TDI.

ordered the Sailun's in 205/55r16 from PMC at lunch today... should be here by Friday....

Considering trying to mount and balance them myself.... just want to learn,....

The alloy rims I have for the winters are OEM, but not the best condition... perfect candidate....

I have run 195/65r15 on the mkiv jetta on the same commute.. yeah, no problems with traction that weren't driver induced...... didn't see the message about trying to go 195 on the 16's until after I ordered.

I did PMC last year. I think they showed up in less than 24hrs! It was insane!
