The plan of keeping your NS plate and license when you move to the GTA is a great idea if you want to be denied insurance completely after an incident like Uber drivers who choose not to buy commercial insurance. Ins companies are not stupid they have every angle covered which translates directly to their stellar profits.

Toyota Corolla, good build quality and design. ASAIK the only small engine that uses a chain instead of a belt to turn the cam(s).

(Totally OT: There is this whole issue that whatever the current government parties think is top tier income is actually middle class in downtown Toronto. I bet Vancouver, Calgary, and other cities have a similar issue... I dunno... the tax brackets need to be adjusted for regional cost of living in such a large country.)

I live in downtown Toronto, family of 5, 2 drivers, a minivan and a "sports" sedan, and I drive a whole bunch for work. If I could pay $3,350 or less a year on car insurance, I would be VERY happy!!

Oh, I understand kind sir... I understand. Every time I talk about insurance rates a small part of me dies and the part of me that needs bourbon to make life palatable grows every so slightly.

Yup!
I've been following the some of the TDI forums, the software ONLY retrofitted cars will take a hit of ~34 ft-lb of torque, which will make the car run like crap to what it was before the retrofit. There maybe some potential for some great deals coming on the TDI Golfs, Jettas and maybe the Audis with the VW software retrofit.

My car is for sale, 2011 Lexus CT200h. Great on gas, low on insurance, safe and beautiful car to drive. I have lowered the price to $18,500 and am slightly flexible:

VW owners in the US that have tried selling their TDIs have reported that non-VW dealership are offering wholesale, minus 15% for trade-ins, not sure if this will be the case up here.

It's not just the GTA that has high rates.
Purchased a Honda CR-Z (small 2 seated hybrid) for my 16 year old here in Ottawa.
The lowest I found for him as primary was Belair Direct at $3200.
