Hello there, I have been lurking around for a few weeks now but with finally having a 911 (well second actually, I owned an '81 SC targa for 3 weeks right before finding this one but .. two 911 is a bit too much or me right now unfortunately) I now have a few questions so decided to introduce myself!

I am the proud owner of an 1988 Carrera Coupe in carmin red/cherry rot with 135k km and is all original (except the more modern Blaupunkt radio and front speakers) and best of all drives great! I am very happy I was able to feel an SC before and wasn't planning on selling it but I was really looking for a coupe at first and couldn't resist seeing it. Oh and 1988 seems to be a great year also!

I'm located in Montréal ! (je parle français aussi!)

Now I am looking for a good and honest Porsche independent mechanic .. I have seen a few threads about that but they're fairly old now! My voltage regulator or alternator stopped working today (yeah what an adventure coming back from Ontario) ... and there is a cv joint boot that needs to be replaced. Also had a few questions for them about the clutch.. I don't have that problem but my father pushes it a bit further than me and it makes a rattling noise. Anyways I need your feedback first to pick one!

Here are two pictures from earlier today!

Welcome and enjoy your new ride. Sorry no input for your mechanic question, but I am pretty sure there was a more recent thread on it.

Congrats and Welcome.
I also have a 88 coupe, and Andrew @ Wetune is the only one allowed to put his hands on it.
I have a good amount of experience with this car, so feel free to reach me via PM.

I once had a rattling noise coming from the transmission during acceleration, it was due to one of the transmission cross-member bolts being loose, the large washer was making the noise.

Thank you! This seems to be THE place to go! I just called them and my car is going in next monday... It will be a long week!!

And ibeaudoin good to know that!! My sound is more from close to the clutch pedal when pressed to the bottom bottom, I havn't had that problem as I don't reach that fat but I guess it's not normal. We tried to bring the "stopper" closer but the sound is still there. I have a rattle at low rpm after changing gears (1-2-3 I think) but I have been told this one is normal...

Ah, you mean the G50 gear rattle at low rpm?
All normal if it's what you are talking about. But rattle from the clutch pedal is not normal.
I would be more than happy to listen to yours to confirm.
And replacing the alternator is a DiY if you're handy.

911 Rod red wasn't my first choice as I could not afford being too difficult haha but now I actually really really love it and it seems a bit more rare compared to the guards red!

The one on the left was the 81 targa I had (on my phone right now don't know how big this picture will be)

Love that red too.

I use Euroservice in Vaudreuil on my 1987 Carrera (primarily because he is 2 minutes from my office). Richard is quite knowledgeable and does a good job.

Depending on the problem with your alternator it might be just the regulator. Unless you had it repaired already just measure the voltage at the battery. It should be around 13 volts or so. Mine was jumping up to 18.

The regulator is a relatively cheap part compared to the whole alternator. It is installed on the back of the alternator so you have to remove the fan and shroud assembly and push the alternator out of the housing to access it.

Good luck

Thank you! Yes we think (hope) it is the regulator, when it wouldn't start we checked the voltage and it was 11 something and at 2000 rpm it got lower a little. But after reading I wasn't 100% sure. Anyways it's going to Wetune on monday!
