Fist car I ever drove/steered was when I was around 10, it was a '73 Polski Fiat. Then, at 14 stole my parents '85 Zatava 101 at night with my buddy to learn how to drive a manual car. Had my motorcycle license by then so driving a manual was not that much different.

Depends if you are talking legally or not... Legally it was am 85 Chrysler Tourismo (whatever that is!)...
But before I turned 16, my friend and I would push his Mom's 83 Civic out of the garage and down the street. We would then start it far away from the house and drive around all night. We would drive to Hull, Quebec, buy beer many cases of beer, return to Ottawa, and sell the cases to friends. The profit we mainly used to fill the tank before we brought it home so nothing was suspicious. It was a 5-speed, so we both learned to drive manual on that car. I can only imaging today if we got pulled over with 6 cases of beer in the car, driving under age, without parents knowledge.

PPo
I have so many stories to tell my kids. But only after they have their own kids. I figure the statute of limitations should have expired by then.
My current motto. " Do as I say, not as I did."

First time behind the wheel learning stick: early 80s Fiat 126p on a back road at 13 years of age. Cars I actually learned to drive on the street with a learner's permit (G1/G2): 1990 Aerostar and 1995 328i manual. First car; 1987 Honda CRX Si manual.

I hear ya!! As I was typing the above I was thinking to myself: "Oh crap, my son is going to be 15 in about 5 years... and his brother and sister will follow... if they are anything like me I am going to have my hands full!!"

I should write all these stories down, so I don't forget them. Either way there in the vault until he's 30 or married or his own kids.
I need an off shore, non search and seizure, cloud storage. We best all get on that.

Remarkable how "back in the day" so many of us learned to drive at 12 or 13. How the world has changed!
I was 12 and used to go driving with my dad in an early 70's Chevy pickup that was his company car. Dufferin was a gravel road north of Steeles and we'd go driving there on Sundays. He'd squeeze himself to the door so I could semi-sit in the drivers seat. That was so much fun.
Had my first car about 6 months before my 16th birthday that I was allowed to drive sparingly ('73 Buick Century).. Drove myself to get tested on the day of my 16th birthday. Now that I think back, can't believe that my parents were so liberal. So different with my own kids.
Learned standard on a '76 VW Rabbit, '73 Spitfire, '76 TR7 and a bunch of MGB's. Learned about British cars the hard way.

I learned on my Dad's 1972 Ford Maverick, (drum brakes and manual steering) and learned manual when I bought my first car a year later, a 1962 VW Bug. Pics are not the actual cars, but the models & colours are correct. Man I'm feeling a tad old LOL.
I remember my Dad bought the Maverick new for $1479, and I paid $200 for the bug in 1979. I was 17 and so was the car.
I also remember asking the lady who I bought it from what the little red light was on the dash, and she said she didn't know, but it had been on for quite a while. I drove home, drove around for a few days, then dug out the manual and discovered it was the oil pressure warning light.
It ran better with oil in it.

1984 Buick Electra Estate Wagon. Burgundy on burgundy velour with light oak appliqué...wish I had a photo Image from Google...ours had the wire wheels...not Borrani;-) Unfortunately it burned down all on its own while I was in class during high-school...
I'd love to have it back...put in a new ZR1 engine and some Cragar wheels and have some fun!
