Default Out of Province Vehicle - ICBC Vehicle Inspection Facility

Hi guys,

Just picked up a Porsche over in Calgary and drove it back to BC. I need to take my 911 to an ICBC vehicle inspection facility before I can register the vehicle.

The list of facilities from ICBC range from Scan Automotive to Kal Tire/Fountain Tire. Has anyone been thru this process before?

Which facility did you end up picking?

Thanks much !!

J

I was in the same situation last summer and used Juan's Autoservice in Richmond. Essentially, it's a safety inspection. Quick and painless but not free

+1. As stated, it's a safety inspection, but there are some strict requirements (no window tint on side windows, no license plate covers, etc). It's a one-time inspection, though, at least.

Congratulations on your purchase. Don't forget to post pics and introduce yourself if you haven't done that already on another thread.
Inspection is nothing. I imported a 993 from Calgary last August. You can use any approved garage. It's a routine safety inspection that takes about an hour, no servicing involved.
The real hit is going to come afterwards, when you take it to register it with ICBC and get your plates. They will club you with a huge tax charge before you can register the car.

Thanks everyone for the feedback, I can definitely feel a friendly community here ! Since the inspection is simple, I have an appointment scheduled at Kal Tire which is the closest location to where I am then I'm getting ready for the tax hit !!!

Pictures on the way once I get my vehicle registered !

Actually the "luxury' bump on sales tax is as follows:
Vehicle up to $55k rate is 7%, 55,000 to 59,999 rate is 8%, 56000 to $57000 rate is 9% and $57000 and over is 10%

There is GST and PST.
Buy your car in Alberta before you move. If you import the car to BC when you move here you don't pay the PST.

Jesus, that is about as clear as mud.

I know they dinged me 2% over 12% totalling 14% on my 997 turbo because it was over 67k.

And for property transfer tax they screwed me again on real estate.

Is anybody else seeing this shameful money grab in B.C??
I am completely blown away from this form of provincial govt robbery.

I already have the car.....

So do I pay anything beyond the regular fees to relicense in BC?

I`d be pretty choked if I did........

B.C will allow you to transfer your vehicle from out of province within 3 months of moving to B.C. No tax.
After 3 months they will tax you on the transfer.

Did you pay tax when you bought it?

Getting a car out of province is not a way to get out of tax. They'll ding you when you register it in BC based upon the purchase price of the car.
