I drove manual exclusively for 25 years until I purchased my 911. Sure, rowing gears is a hoot and I felt connected to my car. But as I got older and more ornery, I got fed up having to shift gears every 5 seconds because of the insane traffic in the city. I can't even imagine having a manual transmission DD today. And even though this is my first "automatic" transmission, I have never enjoyed a car more than this 911.

...only for the wife 'eh Greg? Jennifer would insist on a manual sports car but neither of us would have it in the SUV.

I'd take a manual especially on the track, where is the skill in pulling paddles...

I'm going to defer to Chris Harris - quote from today 1/05/15:

"The 991 GT3 is the ultimate road-going 911. It revs to 9,000rpm and is profoundly exciting. Bearing the GT3 badge also marks it out as the ultimate ‘drivers’ 911 – or does it? Because the GT3 is, in the eyes of many, missing a key component required by the arbiters of what makes a great drivers’ car – a manual gear change."

Yup. Manual for DE but PDK for actual racing. Remember the original post was about a dealer in Victoria, kinda Canada's St. Petersburg. Bet they sell a lot of Caddy De Villes too....are they still made?

It seems to me that people with PDKs are very touchy when they are criticized for buying them.
Why is that? Reality is that we are just having some fun with you.
It's not like you are driving a cab ....

You would have to ask a Formula One driver for the answer.

In the end, I believe some of you think it's the macho thing to drive a MT.

We have heard from many like myself who have had MT and finally traded for PDK and love it.

We have heard from people who have supposedly driven a PDK but prefer a MT. However, we have not heard from anyone who has actually OWNED a PDK and has traded back for a MT.

Just maybe once you go PDK you're never going back..

Hmmm, my natural reaction to such a question "is the madness of buying a PDK to start with, reversible?" LOL. I think you could argue that maybe someone attracted to PDK to start with would likely not change his mind. Speed and ease is probably paramount. Hey, I don't condemn it, I just think of it is as a super fast auto. My daughter rode in a PDK equipped 997 Turbo driven in an enthusiastic manner and she told me the paddles weren't even used.....no need, the car makes better decisions than the driver would. Cheers

Have traded texts with Patrick Long, Porsche factory driver, he is in agreement.
He's not in F1, hopefully that will should suffice.
No skill involved in pulling paddles....

My Audi has a double clutch transmission, I can't wait to drive the Porsche, just not in Toronto traffic....

I believe these are "the Good Old Days" for performance cars. Tremendous choices - Spyder, GT4, GT3, GT3RS, GTS 911, GTS Cayman, GTS Boxster or lots of used Porsches. Pick the one that appeals to you and enjoy it.
