Default Front windshield replacement?

Any recommendations for front windshield replacement? I went to Downtown Porsche and it's roughly $1150 plus tax including the service to replace the front windshield for a 997.2 with the integrated antenna.

Sure enough, I checked the net for prices and it is a fair price since the windshield is ~$900.

Any alternatives? My windshield is just pitted no cracks, and it's a minor annoyance driving against the sun sometimes.

Thanks!

If it's only a sometimes" problem, why try to have it polished rather than replaced?
Similar to what you would do with the headlight.
May be worth a look but I goolged around and found this.

Thanks for the response. With pitting it's very hard to make the glass even because they're like very small gouges in the glass. With minor surface scratches it is easier to get rid of. Adding a layer of compound to the glass I hear makes the view uneven and may actually make it worse as well since everything would look a bit wavy.

Doesn't seem like there's a way to get the windshield for less. Minor inconvenience, I guess I'll keep this one unless I can get one for a reasonable price.

you have a gt3 and want to save won't spend the money to be able to see clearly? You do not want to be at Mosport driving into the sun and not be able to see very clearly. would you want to be on track with someone who might have some impaired vision? I know I don't.
try oakville and ask them if they give pca discount on the glass.

Seems like a cheap & easy fix here:

EU Autowerks had there windshield guy do mine while at their shop for 675+ taxes, not OEM would have been more expensive and I don't have the rain sensor.

I don't think we're on the same page here. lol Minor pitting --think 1st world problems. The car has just over 10,000km. No spider cracks or anything unusual. You can't tell the pitting is there unless you're driving directly into sunlight which is almost never. It's almost no different than any other car with that mileage.

I have the rain sensor. Is it different glass for that?

Call Speedy Auto Glass or another glass only shop. These guys deal with windshields all day long.

Thanks, gave them a call. It's 580 plus tax. More reasonable if you're going to be replacing the windshield every few years on every car you own.

There are many different windshield manufacturers, the quality differs
greatly. A cheap windshield pits easily.
As the storey goes....ya get what ya pay for.

get a good quality glass and make sure the installer takes pride in his/her work, and if they scratch the body/frame when removing the old glass make sure they primer/paint the area...my buddy used to be a 'pro-installer' and has all sorts of stories...

Is there anything online regarding this? 996/997 have owners have typically complained about the poor quality of OEM glass. I have a feeling it could not possibly be any worse. Unlike mechanical or electrical components, is there really a discernible difference?

You posted seconds before I did. Hmm... something to think about here... You know what money isn't the issue, it's the principal behind the cost of the OEM glass. To avoid any headaches I think I'd just get OEM glass. Not willing to chance it after all.
