ipod kit install/troubleshoot
Hi everyone,
I have a 2005 911 Carrera S with Bose sound system, the car came a ipod kit installed already but it doesn't seem to be working, the only thing that it does is charge my phone but I can't get it to play anything. I have a feeling something is not connected correctly.
Does anyone know of someone who can troubleshoot or install a new ipod kit in my car for a decent price? I know the kit was installed by Bestbuy because it says "Geeksquad" on the cable but I don't think I want to take the car there for them to take apart the Nav/etc.
Thanks,
Arjun

I'm honestly not too sure, the cable says "geek squad" right on it, and that's the only marking. The cable is not interchangeable as far as I know, unless it can be unplugged from behind the dash.
It's possible that this is the Denison model because I don't think geek squad makes their own iPod kits for these cars

Have you tried an older iPod, or iPhone 4? Is there any chance it's just a power cable hard wired?
In any case you need to find out what is installed, from there we can determine compatibility and then trouble shoot.

I tried an old iphone 4, but still didn't work.........again it just charges the phone. A few weeks ago I tried to remove the Nav unit to get behind there but I couldn't seem to remove the 4 allen screws, I realize you just need to spin the 90 degrees or so but once I did that the unit would still not come out (even after I removed the 2 other screws on the side). Any other way I can find out what the brand of the unit is?
Maybe I will have to give it another go once it warms up

I have the same set up in mine and it has worked perfectly for the last 4 years. It was installed at a Best Buy in Hamilton and works through your fm radio on an unused frequency. Check your fm presets or scan your radio stations and you should find it if there is nothing else wrong. Good luck

Oh really, I had no idea it would be on the FM radio presets.......thanks for letting me know, I will have to check that out....I was assuming it would be connected to the CD changer or something like that.
Thanks!
Thanks!

JerryK- Do you know what the switch is for? I noticed in my car they have the switch just in the opening under the NAV but I have no idea what the switch does? Does it just switch the transmitter on and off? My phone still charges if its switched either on or off.......is yours the same?

Okay then. You have an iPod adapter with FM modulator.
Pretty old school as they refer to the iPhone 3G
Basically how it works it that it takes your iPod music and broadcasts it on an FM station.
Usually default stations are lower in the band like 88.1, 88.3, 88.5,
It charges yes but doesn't allow control of the iPod so you have to use the iPod to changes songs, playlist etc.

Great thanks so much everyone! Can't wait to try this out and see if it actually works........too bad I won't be home until Friday! I'll keep everyone updated on my findings!
wc11 is 100% correct.
Sorry, I forgot to mention the switch.
The switch when left on, will cause static on your fm stations. It's used only when you want your connected device to play on the selected preset.
BTW the sound quality is same as your radio/cd.
Good enough for the so so Bose system our 997's have.

Question for those of you who have the same kit, have any of you used an apple adapter to convert the old style ipod cable to the lightning cable and has it worked? I have an iphone 6 so I can't use the old cable. I bought a $5 adapter off ebay and tried that but it says that it doesn't seem to work.
