The only advice I have is make sure you drive your car for a significant enough period of time so that it reaches operating temperature.

Short drives in our cold climate/weather will lead to condensation buildup and wreak havoc on the engine...

My 996 TT sits in a unheated garage and you can tell how cold it is outside by the way it starts.

100% agree and I have a lot of experience starting cold, very cold, and frozen engines.

I am not suggesting this... but when I was Ice Racing, the car would sit out in open cold for a whole week... and we are talking a 250,000km+ piece of junk... We would remove the battery and store it indoors, and also remove the oil and keep it room temperature. We would show up, pour in the oil, hook up the battery, and the car would start without serious drama. If we didn't do this, we couldn't get it to start in the cold. Why is this important to your thread? Because it discusses how battery and oil temperature are related to cold starts... its crucial!

FYI... below -20, my Benz takes a bit longer to wake up also... it's normal. Drive it and enjoy it...

last week it was feezing here in Cambridge ( about -25c with the chill i think ) , my son says lets take the Audi .. it had been parked through a few thaws and refreezes as i dont use it much .. we had to chip through the ice to get the doors to even open ... the tires were frozen to the driveway like giant ice blocks , car has 400,000 km ..

wuh, wuh , wuuuh,,,,,, bang ....

she lept to life just as i thought it was going to give out .. never heard such horrid screeching and groaning .. but once it warmed up it was awesome ..

If you think your A4 was loud when it fired up, you should hear a diesel (even just a 1.9L 4cylinder) fire up in sub -20C weather. Sounds like a bunch of angy monkies with sledgehammers under the hood.

Tomorrow morning will be a good test for my two diesels. Changed the glow pugs in the wife's car yesterday afternoon as two of them were not working.

I'm not sure if this will be helpful. My Z has difficulty starting under +10C and below about +4C won't start at all....twin side draft SU carbs. However, plug in the block heater for an hour or 2 and it starts instantly in any temperature even after 5 months in storage. Wonder if there is a block heater available for Porsches?

The choke works on your Z? Sounds like it doesn't.

Glad to be of help. It made a huge difference in my old E46 M3. Now that my e92 has a start button it seems so unnatural . Kinda hate it. Some things just need to be left as is.
