Thanks Ernie, but looking for 2002+ only, if any others come up please let me know.
997TT are definitely becoming bargains too, but we both prefer 996TT and hopefully he'll be more inclined to use it regularly if it's a cheaper machine, his ex-930 was somewhat a garage queen because it was 'too nice'.
Just helped my neighbour get into a nice 'entry-level' '02 blk/blk 6spd 996TT a few months ago, $37k. My dad is willing to spend a fair bit more then that to find the ideal car, but doesn't want to enter the garage-queen thing again.
Cheers,
Rob
Prices have gone up since I bought mine. I am also sort of interested in picking up another one for the wife and to replace my C4S has to be arctic silver/black tiptronic. Though at the prices people are asking now, it may be worth waiting for the right 997.1tt to come up.

Got a response from the dealer, 2 panels have been replaced-unknown which, as suspected the wheels are narrow body versions based on number he sent me, and of course got the 'many people interested-better come buy it now' line...
Hi Rob, glad to help
So if I was ready to buy one I would be seriously looking at this one:

If you take a peek at it let me know what you think
Ciao

can't forget 2001 also 'could' have front bumperettes and solid spoke wheels, they lack the structural reinforcement in the b-pillar, are more prone to 2nd gear pop-out
Not saying they are bad cars by any means, just be picky and going for 2002+ only.

Me I'd prefer to take a 2002 over any of them as the audio system is still analog like the 01 and can be cheaply upgraded. Though I wouldn't discount a 2001 specially if it was a few grand cheaper.

I see, well you certainly have keen eyes, thanks for sharing your findings. That car would not be for me or your Father.

Actually all 996tt could have 2nd gear pop out not just 2001. The structural reinforcement was to provide more support for the seat belt and for upcoming cab model as well as modify the seat pan area to fit in the m96 motor and tranny for the C4S model. The 2001 was structurally reinforced over vs the narrow body 996 though marketing only came out in 2002 which may be confusing but the 01 had was also done minus the b piller and seat pan change. Front bumperettes were only on early 01 U.S.A models and not Canada. Unless your tracking the car the extra weight solid spokes have shouldn't matter, they also are stronger then the hollow spoke wheels.

Definitely all TT are prone to the 2nd gear issue, but seems the 2001's have a higher rate of occurrence, all can be prevented anyhow.
I've looked into the structural changes in the past and the roof is quite reinforced in 2002+, belt recoil or not. There is a bar that runs longitudinally within the structure. As far as I can tell, the seat pan is changed for fitment issues as you stated and not structural improvement.
Not to concerned about hollow vs. solid issue, as GT2 wheels are going on
Agree about the MOST 2003+ stereo, but isn't a big issue either-keeping stock.
Just a bunch of little things, being selective what he buys. If it was going to be a trackcar then wouldn't think twice about year.
Cheers,
Rob
