Default Exporting a car to Canada

Hi friends to the North! I have a buyer for my car from Ontario. We are finding that there are new rules in place for exporting a car from the US. This was realized today after the buyer bought a plane ticket to Indy to get the car. Any tips on how this is done? Thanks in advance.

This is still beeing discussed just a few threads down. Here is the link: https://rennlist.com/forums/rennlist...astically.html

In a nutshell, you, the seller, needs to open a bussiness to get that number.

Exactly....the buyer is picking up the car Oct 2. Hence the questions. I'll post back when all is said and done.

Just a little update.....

I had to file for a EIN # (Employer ID Number). The buyer is using a broker to file the papers / docs. The pick up has been moved to Friday because that is when all the docs will be in place for crossing the border.

Pete if you could let us know the hassle of applying for the EIN # it would be apprecited. The fear is US sellers wont bother selling to Canadians because of this.

Do you have any comments ?

To get the EIN it took approx 30 minutes online. When you do get the EIN make sure you PDF or print it because once it is off your screen it is gone and I mean gone. The 2nd part is registering on AESdirect. Amounts to 30 questions on a quiz but the buyer used a broker that. The 2nd part looked to be the PIA.

Read below.

Subject: Guidance to exporting your vehicle to Canada

Good Afternoon Sir,

Below has the instructions on how to obtain an EIN (if they (USPPI) doesn't have one):

1. Go to this link: http://www.census.gov/foreign-trade/...ons/index.html and under Resources box open the "Obtain an EIN" link. This pdf has instructions on how to obtain an EIN.

2. Once you have obtained an EIN, then you will need to register on AESdirect: https://aesdirect.census.gov/registr..._form_user.cgi

3. Once you file your export on AESdirect, you will get an email with the ITN (Internal Transaction Number) which you will need to annotate on your export manifest (or invoice) to show proof of filing.

Oh it's a nice one...what sealed the deal was a slab of bacon, a can of maple syrup and a tuke.

Very much appreciate the feed back.

Eh! Pete!
A tuke is written: 'toque' or 'tuque' in the Great White North.
Nice to see a Jake Raby engine making it over here.
Congrats on your sale!

Sorry about the toque comment. Don't want to my chicks before there are hatched. Deal will be done when the greenbacks are safely in the bank. Hope the new owner gets on RL. We have a great community !
