Share the Passion
Posted over on the 996 GT2 pic thread, but is a feel good story for me so figured I'd share here as well.
A little story from today:
Went to visit my local Pcar dealer to pick-up some parts. When rolling into their driveway I see a young 15y.o. co-op student(who is working there for the next month) staring at my car as I roll in.
As I get out, he says to me 'love your car! GT2's are my favourite!'. Have a short, enthusiastic, minute-long conversation as we walk into the dealer and I go to my parts guy. The young guy quickly walks back out and keeps walking around the car for the full ~20minutes I was inside talking with Brad my Parts man.
After doing my parts purchase I walked outside where he was still thoroughly checking out my car, I opened it up and told him to have a seat inside, his jaw dropped-'really?!' he said, 'of course!' I said.
He asked if he could take a few pictures, I insisted he did and also suggested I take a picture of him in the car with his camera, jaw dropped again. Very enthusiastic and well-read of Porsche's, loves the 996's
.
I am only about 10 years his senior, so I still thoroughly remember the excitement I had around these cars when I was his age.
Making his day, made mine.

That is something that defines a Porsche owner, I been saying that Porsche owners buy the car for passion with the brand, a childhood that became true one day.
Once i told to my girlfriend to notice the owners of Ferraris/Lambos and Porsche and she will notice the difference, what she notice, Porsche: like 99% were couples, Young couples or not so young couples but what they had in commom they we talking to each other and they didn't look distant. After that she started share with me some stuff she has been seeing, she told me that once she saw 2 guys talking and one had a new 911 and the other was just some guy that was walking and we was makings questions to the owner and he was more than happy in showing the car.
She also notice the Porsche owners salute each other.
The first time I went for a ride in a Porsche was something like you told. we were members in the same forum, he worked in the same city than me, he saw i was a little bit to crazy about the brand, we went to drink a coffee and talk about Porsche, later he said "do you wanna go for a ride" hell yes i said, I was so excited. 5 years had passed by and we became close friends.
Porsche owners are more than a simple owner or an enthusiastic. That kid will remember you for the rest of his life.

Certainly a great event for the youngster that he'll be talking about for a while. Let's hope it translates into a drive to succeed. This was a frequent topic during my career as I trained many kids that were coming into the industry who had little or no drive to commit themselves on a daily basis ..they sure loved the cars, but hated the thought of working towards owning one.
My 10 year old nephew came by the house on Sunday with his mom to see my new P car. So I pulled it out of the garage and he was very excited. His mom took a couple of pics and a couple of him sitting in the car as well. Took him for a spin. I asked him what was his favourite car. He said Lambourghini. Little **** ! I had to laugh. Pretty sure he had fun in the Porsche. lol
Thanks guys! Great to hear some stories as well!
Make a good point Sim, let's hope he does!
I was always lucky enough to have a dad who loved(and owned) Porsche's, and was surrounded by other's who also loved to spare time to show and gives rides in their Porsche's.
Cheers,

It truly is a one of a kind community. When I bought mine and joined a local group on facebook one of the guys called me and gave me some advice on local shops. Very nice gestures.
I also like that most people here are well spoken and have civil conversations and disagreements without being too uptight at the same time... most forums are infested with trolls. Trolls seem inherent to every community except Rennlist it seems!
