Default OBD2 scanner 50% off at CT

Picked one up today. Innova 3100 ABS for $99+tax. With the new e-test system, something like this will be a must for the DIY-er. Been borrowing one from evryone but it was now time to buy my own.

Some people on the comment section have been saying you need to pay a premium $$ charge from Innova to get the diagnostics?

I thought you could scan and google the result? Might have to pick one up with the new etest protocols.

From Amazon.com:

The Innova 3100 CanOBD2 Diagnostic Tool is the DIY’s choice that comes with many professional features. This easy-to-use tool connects to your 1996 and newer car, truck or SUV, and retrieves a list of diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) and code definitions from your vehicle's computer. You can also view freeze-frame data which shows the condition of the vehicle when the code was set which makes diagnosing the problem that much easier. Combine this with Internet connectivity and the ability to interface with a PC, and you have a powerful, professional diagnostic tool in the palm of your hand.
The Innova 3100 makes diagnostics quick and easy. View Larger

Many tools have already been developed to access these powerful on-board vehicle computers, but the Innova tool is particularly simple to use and surprisingly affordable. It is designed to be used by almost anyone, from a DIYer to the ASE master technician. The 3100 is designed to retrieve diagnostic codes in all OBD2 (1996 and newer) vehicles. The tool features a unique patented all-in-one screen and 3 color LED display for quick OBD check, so you'll know if you're ready to pass an emissions/smog test. The 3100 was built to display on-screen DTC definitions and user interfaces in English, Spanish, or French, and the trilingual language selection is accessed via a simple menu command. This device also stores diagnostic codes in its memory for off-car review and analysis. The 3100 is also equipped with the ability to connect to your PC. With the included cables and software you can connect the tool to your computer to generate, print, and save detailed diagnostic reports--plus you can even update the 3100 via the Internet.

The 3100 links to all OBD2 protocols including CAN (Controller Area Network). This device is equipped to retrieve the following OBD2 diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs): Generic Codes (P0, P2, P3, and U0) and Manufacturer Specific Codes (P1, P3, and U1). In addition, the tool features an automatic refresh feature that updates data every 30 seconds when connected to the vehicle. This helps verify that your repair has worked.
All-in-One Screen and One-Push Button Functions

Handheld diagnostic tools should put all the information a user needs right in the palm of your hand, but too often other models bury this data within the device, requiring you to navigate through multiple menus to find what you want. The 3100 is different. Using a combination of its patented all-in-one screen, that allows for viewing 25 pieces of vital information in three languages--English, French or Spanish--all at once without having to search through multiple menus, and single-button function access, users are guaranteed quick, efficient access to data they need.
Patented Emission Status LEDs

Over 30 States now use an OBD2 based system to check for emissions readiness, making it more important than ever to be aware of the status of your vehicle and to keep it running in top condition. With this in mind, the Innova 3100 has been designed with the ability to read the exact same emissions information as these state-required tests do to see if you will pass the first time around. Built around a simple color-coded system where Green = Pass, Yellow = Potential Problems and Red = Fail, users are able to quickly diagnose potential emission issues with the 3100. Other tool manufacturers charge over $100 for this feature alone and a separate tool has to be purchased, but the 3100 includes this with the price of purchase.
Additional Diagnostic Resources at Innova.com

The Innova 3100 CanOBD2 Diagnostic Tool also comes with access to RepairSolutions through Innova.com. RepairSolutions allows users to take control of vehicle diagnostics by providing you with the complete solution as to why your "Check Engine" light is on. A basic report is provided free with your tool purchase, with a comprehensive analysis available for additional purchase.

Good to see they dropped it to the going rate. The only way to buy anything up here is when it is seriously discounted.

I bought a Innova 3030 at CTC for $99.99 on sale (down from $159.99 then) and thought I got a smoking deal. I later saw it "regularly priced" at Walmart in the US for $56.

I'm holding out for one with live-data stream, likely buying from the US.

Noticed CT has the 3030 model on sale until end of today for $53 + tax so I grabbed one, according to the great summary chart posted by curtisr, the difference to the 3100 being:
- Freeze frame data, which I understand provides the sensor values of the code that was tripped, could be useful
- Multilingual, don't care.
- Manufacturer specific code definition, well are there any on the Porsche or is it referring to the descriptive details of the code being displayed under the code with the 3100?
- Battery back up for off car review, don't care

The new 3030f model has ABS check too, Porsche is not listed as a brand/model, but many domestic and Asian cars are, including my DD 2005 Accord V6.

I tried out the 3030 with the Porsche, took almost two full minutes for the unit to return a no-fault status, took less than 30 seconds for my Accord to also return the no-fault status, what has been the experience with those who used the 3100 with your Mk1 996 or other Porsche models, quick 30 seconds or long two minutes?

So, I still might return the 3030 and pick up the 3100 which is on sale at Partsource now for $100 + tax, same as at CT last week.

Does the job for 99$. I had the same deal in june. But I should have spent extra money for one that can monitor your car when the engine is running.

^ Assume you are referring to live data stream? You will be spending more, at that point it might be worth considering Scan Gauge II.

Haven't tried it on the 996 bit did it on an Accord. The 3100 that I got has the ABS module in it too. In all homesty, all I really need is a code reader and a readines monitor. Anything more is just a bonus.

depends what your connector looks like i made one for my Audi .. also depends if the unit can decode the signals .. all you really need is a jumper for obd 1 and read the flashing lights . then decode .. not much work ..
