Even some of the old air-cooled(such as 2.7L) oversize bearings are discontinued now ...I also find it odd/stupid...
When you have a spun con rod bearing and Porsche doesn't sell oversized bearings, a simple rebuild starts to become expensive. For the life of me I can't understand why no one makes oversize connecting rod or main bearings. These engines are over 15 years old and there is over 160K made, that's got to be big enough of a market for a bearing manufacturer to start making them.

I know that EBS Racing in the USA had a clearout on rebuilt engines I believe for 996 / 997 , may be worth looking at their web site. Have dealt with them for parts in the past and found them to be very good.

Suncoast was also running a special...might be worth calling them too

I did, and their special is over too. From what I have been told, it was Porsche offering the engines at a discounted rate, and several shops were passing on the discount. That ended a couple weeks ago.

If it is the case that Porsche was trying to unload the engines, I would contact Porsche Canada customer service, outlining and supplying all the service records for the car and ask them to give you special consideration on the pricing on a new or rebuilt engine. They might as well give you the customer a discount if they were offering it to an independent shop. Just outline to them that due to the problems Porsche is experiencing that you feel you deserve "special consideration" Nothing for free just special consideration. It doesn't cost them anything to help you out. See if you can get a contact person before you begin. Good Luck

yes got very very near asking - three offers all good folks.
Thinking about my next one, wont touch 1999-2008 unless turbo or GT car. Leaning towards a 996tt but has to be guards red.

For a second this morning at the cruise, I thought you had got your car fixed. There was a car there that looked almost identical to yours. I think plate was red turbo if am not mistaken.
