Default computer networking help

i am looking to build a network ..

2 servers primary and secondary domain controller for redundancy... i am thinking of a router on a stick configuration but not worried about performance. Which business swi ch should I get and router as well. Don't need wifi. I think most router has port forwarding and access list capability? I will have 2 vlans, one for data and one for voice..

Need help picking switch and router. Need high performance and reliability. I am thinking going with dell R620 with dual ps and ups all mounted on a rack..

I've got an old Cisco Catalyst 2900 24 port switch.
Yours for $40.

You can find lots of used Cisco gear. A 2960 will do the trick. Sounds like you really only need a switch some very basic IP capabilities.

If the router sits on top of the switch and all computers including servers is connected to the switch, when a client connectsto the server, will it take a direct path? The router is the dhcp server .. I want to avoid the router handling all the routing except for external internet requests
