Just got home from pre-driving the route. Last year Steve Martin made a few suggestions for alterations to the route, and I think they were excellent. We skip a lot of the wine route, which is fine, because it's heavy with traffic, and much of it isn't really all that scenic.
The drive is a bit longer than last year. I left Brock's monument at about 8:45 and got to Hutch's just before 11, but I was driving MUCH faster than we will be for at least half the route. I found a few rallying points we can stop at in case there's a lot of separation, but we can leave making that call up to the individual group leaders. I think everyone like the short stop at the devil's punchbowl last year, so I think we should do that again.
I spent a lot of time today trying to export the map from google maps to my Magellan, unsuccessfully. The best I could do was open it in google maps on the browser on my blackberry, which means no spoken directions. I was able to navigate the route fine that way, but if anyone has any tips on getting the route onto a Magellan or Garmin (though my Garmin is older than both my kids combined
) please share.
Forecast is currently at 40% chance of rain, so we're still not confirmed, but I'd say likely.

Have you tried on a samsung or iphone? Would be interesting to see if the google maps app (as opposed to in the browser) will support it. Let me know if you want me to try.

Check out the app GLYMPSE as well.
You create a group, everyone logs in and joins the group.
Although it's not a navigation program with turn by turn directions, it shows in real time where each car is and their current speed on a road map. (speed is NOT public, only yo those logged in)
Used it on the Saturn Drives and it works well. You can tell where everybody is.
