Not sure about the pass-through, but having driven 951's through the winter before, its no issue at all 'performance' wise, roof shouldn't be an issue either

oh my gawd I can't believe a sebring is on a car list
Are you a DIY'er? I just drove a e46 m3 through the winter for 2 years with baby seats in the back.. great beater. wouldn't recommend the smg though. If fuel economy is on your mind you should really only consider a manual.

Hey Jim,
Heres my thoughts
1> we already have a minivan and wife can work from home.
2> commuting from miss. to GTA (noth york) (via 407) about 100kms daily
3> other option is to keep the Neon for winter (and as a spare) and the "porsche" for summer
Having driven a lot of older cars, It would be nice to have something about 5 years old, but, ma I love Pawches

If the car is to be the DD and is the only car in the family then reliability is a factor and I'd worry about that in a twenty year old car. For me acquiring a DD means a vehicle inside of five years of production and after that budget comes into it and financial ability to recover from the inevitable costs afterward.

I wonder if I can get a loaner or a hire car, manul for a week or so to try,
only thing is in an emergency or f wife needs to drive mine, it would need to be an autobox

man the sbring is getting a real bashing
dude at present I'm driving a neon !
yep am a spanner monkey, although I'm not as young as I used to be, service my cars, and last job I did was change the EGR valve on the wifes caravan
MPG would be nice, I'd be goin from a 2.0litre car to a 3.0litre, but higway driving, unless I only use in during summer

My opinion is that you would have NO problem driving manual with the left hand drive. The concept is the same (of course) so it's just a matter of getting used to using your other hand... (insert one of ice's jokes here). I'm sure you could master it in a day. Of course if you need an auto for wifey, that's different.
For 24k you have a LOT of good choices.
Obviously you're first choice seems to be a 968 Cab. So if you can find one, do that, and get a manual. The wife can drive the minivan.
Otherwise, for 24k you can def find a nice, <5yr old BMW 328 cab, Audi A4 cab... or spend a bit less and find a 2002 - 2005 bimmer or audi.
My friend has a 2004 Audi A4 Avant and it's a fantastic car. You'd never guess it was 11 years old either, looks modern and performs great. His is an auto, and it's also got a ton of room in the back, and a good backseat. Pretty sure you can find them for low teens. The BMW 328 wagon is also a great car.

Re: shifting with the other hand . not that hard. I learned to do it in New Zealand when I visited there for a month.
