Default 1 day trip to Buffalo. How much did you.....

come back with (without getting dinged.)?

Any tips?

I just got back from Buffalo after a week in the states, and got a bunch of stuff for the Porsche and from Harbor Freight. (We had 4 in our family, so we were way under our limit).

Turns out, I need a couple more things (only available in the USA) One is a short underhoist jackstand for my midrise lift. $120 for the pair plus $48 shipping to my favourite place in Buffalo. I'm thinking about ordering it, and making the trip down to go pick it up. (250+km round trip), plus 4hrs of my weekend.

The stands are from Greg Smith Equipment, and now you'll see an ad for hoists at the top of this page.

How much did you get away with on a 1 day trip to pick stuff up?

Peter

Agreed. I don't mind, since I'm usually saving a considerable amount anyway. Not in Buffalo, though. I just ship things to my box over the border.

If you're up front with them, show all receipts, and DON'T bring back alcohol/tobacco they may let you go.

My best is $1350 but i also have Nexus not sure if that works in my favour versus regular passport lane.

The big focus is cigarettes and booze, i once told the guy point blank i spent $190 in 3 hrs and he focused in on my face and said booze or tabacco "no sir" and his response was have a nice day.

It really depends on the mood i am in that day. YMMV

You have to understand the CBSA have tests on the system all the time. Mystery shoppers, cross and make declarations and the agents are rated on performance.

$3800-$4500 on two separate occasions, less than an hour spent in the US.....though they didn't let me off with it. I chatted with the officer on one occasion and asked about her discretion, she laughed and said unfortunately can't on that amount. I have gotten waved through without HST on roughly $250 a couple times, also less than an hour in the US.

I always declare the purchases, I've only ever had to pay HST. I factor that into whether it is worthwhile to buy in the US, usually is as we pay HST in Ontario anyway.
