Enviromental fees

Enviromental fees
Just a heads up in case anyone is contemplating a purchase of electronics. I just priced a large IP video job and the enviro fee adds $$ to cost and I'm told it's different for each Province too. It's a decent size job so it's not a big a deal, but in conversation with my supplier they pointed out that I should always check with them because the fee is the same for a $1000 camera as a $24 loudspeaker at $ 5.15. Weird.

Deadeye, thanks for finding that. I was worried that the WEE fees were going to be bigger. I wonder how much it would be if one was to buy a theatre surround sound, 1 main speaker, Left and a Right and Two rears + a woofer, tuner/amp, 7 devices x $ 5.15 = 36.05?

The good news is that most of this stuff they list can be given away for free as long as it's not broken beyond functionality. I've found that if I leave anything that's not broken out on the curb, someone will walk off with it by morning.

The bad news is that you are charged the fee when you buy stuff not when you get rid of it. More bad news, My supplier just mailed me with news that as of May 1 the fees posted go up 50% so the speaker is an extra $7 over and above the listed price.

There are no fees to get rid of electronics . You can drop them off at any future shop / best buy and they will accept the stuff.
read an interesting story on line of someone who dropped off an original NES and a NES robot. very rare and very valuable and one of the kids working there new it . His boss told him he would be fired if he took it home..
we fortunately have a greentech near buy and they have giant dumpsters you can throw anything in .
you can imagine if they did charge to dispose of how many would be left at the side of the road in ditches and in fields.

anything is possible but i just cant see it .. for the same reason they dont charge you to get rid of oil .. if they did people would just dump it and that is against what they are trying to accomplish .. they would be better off increasing the front and at point odf sale that they can control , rather than putting up fees at the back end that they can not control ...
.. well at least thats what i would do if i was running the government .. but i aint ..
