I have just finished getting one son on the road, and the next is in the process of getting his license. Having driven millions of km in my life ( I did a daily commute from London to Toronto 5 days a week for 8 yrs), the best advice I can give my kids is this.... Always assume that the other driver will do the stupidest thing possible in any situation. Worst case scenario, they do it, and you are prepared.. Best case, they don't, and your faith in humankind moves marginally upward. That said, my faith in humankind is not that high.. Common sense is most decidedly uncommon these days

Try driving on streets where bicycles rule. In Rotterdam it's not unusual to be surrounded by 50 bikes at a light. They have right-of-way and know it too and they're not very polite about it either.
