I recall reading that the person who attached the camera to the car was not the owner -- the owner hadn't seen the footage before it was on YouTube, from the sound of it.

This was an instructed event, and he was a solo driver, though he had an instructor. There's a thread on it in the racing forum. The tone with which those who know the guy spring to his defense implies that the man has other redeeming qualities, and possibly some legitimate driving history, but nobody is saying much.

Personally, I don't like the look of the guy's hand movements. From it and his obvious lapses in concentration, I wonder if he may be in the later stages of recovery from something serious. Also, the video doesn't show his whole session, it's just edits of his considerable mistakes.

Yes, once it hit Jalopnik - it went viral on Facebook as well. One hopes the negative feedback he read from all over makes him get an instructor on board and doesn't drive him away from track days. It's a pretty hairy video with him tank slapping through most corners and at one point his hands come right off the steering wheel, then driving with an arm on the window sill, gets way out of shape at one point and puts a hand on the A pillar. Screen capture is all we have now.

Saw it before it vaporized. Bet he will spend some time honing his skills before reappearing on camera.

Thinking outside of the box and I haven't seen the video.
Are you sure this isn't an instructor training session showing how bad a student can be?
I've had the same thing done to me.

This video was mocked in the DE section as well. I found that thread thinking it would be a discussion on the "Fast as Hell" video that someone posted here. Turned out to be something quite different.
