car looks nice but for 55k you can easily pick up a 997.

My gut was the same, but maybe not. Can you find one? (comparible options and condition, of course)

Agreed, overpriced. A dealer-friend of mine is selling my ex-customer's 04 C4S for $46k.

Price is a function of condition and mileage and cheaper is definitely not always better; you guys should know that. A 997 C4S assuming you could find it for that price, did not come with as many standard features as the 996 C4S. For example, full leather was standard on all 996 C4S' but it was a pricey option on the 997 version.
The 996 C4S was marketed as essentially being a turbo with all the chassis, suspension, brakes and comfort upgrades of the TT but without the turbo engine and staying a bit lighter too. Yes pricing is getting very close between C4S's and TT and that's due to the fact that one model has stabilized and the other is still moving lower because there are more TT's out there. 996 TT was in production for 5 full years from 2001 to 2005 while the C4S was only in production for 3 full years from 2002 to 2004...a very small number were produced in 2005.

Absolutely. But $55k for a C4S with almost 50k km on it is just nuts.

Full leather was standard in '04? Nice that it became standard... I had an '03 C4S and full leather was an expensive option...

My only complaint about the car was that it was definitely sluggish... one of the slower 911's in the decade, but in the right driver's hands... otherwise the car was great to drive. Great looking car...

+ on the later 997 or the turbo no IMS issues
isn't ATR selling his 997 for $35k with a fresh engine?

Great thoughts - thanks!

I do believe in spending a bit more for a car with a good history and sold by a reputable dealership.

What is the maintenance/reliability like on the turbo vs the naturally aspirated models? I had a b5 s4 which had the biturbo v6 and there always seemed to be hoses popping, etc. That's why I sold it and bought the b7 s4 with a v8.

I noticed that one on autotrader but the kms scared me away. When I buy a car as finely crafted as a Porsche, I want to minimize my time in the shop. So I think it best not to stretch to the higher model while sacrificing mileage. Maybe I'm too cautious...

This would be a dream: http://bit.ly/W6eTQO

90K is not high mileage. I think its just right. The car was driven regularly and that's a very good thing.
