Default Mosport this Sat - Cold and raining

Supposed to be a low of 4 and high of 10-12 and raining this Sat for the last PCA track weekend. I still have my summers on and wasnt on planning to change to the winters at least for another month or so. You guys just run on summers and be careful to warm the tires up? Doesnt sound like a lot of fun (actually sounds dangerous) but not sure what to do. Thanks

Mosport in the rain is no fun. Just my opinion. I love slip-sliding around other tracks, but when it rains at Mosport, I don't drive. Too scary, too dangerous.

But to answer your question, winters will be no good in temps of 10-12 degrees. Winters are designed for just above freezing and below, as I understand it.

Summer street tires will do you just fine. Come up to speed very gradually, and it will be apparent to you how much grip you have -- even if it isn't very much.

And Mosport is fun in the rain, too. It's a completely different track from when it's dry. I recently bought rain pants, and from the look of your weather forecast, I would recommend doing the same. They're great for Fall at Mosport!

Rain pants because you have to drive around with the window down all day!!

The high is supposed to be around 10-12 so early in the day the temps could be 4-5 which is winter tire zone (less than about 7 i believe)

For regular driving, anything below 10C is winter tire season. Winter tires also do really well at the drag strip, they are sticky, like a poor mans drag radials but, they get really soft when hot. So if the tire temperature goes up, they will feel like chewing gum.

I plan to be there with my almost bald RA1 R compounds, I want to get one last weekend out of them. I am hoping the weather forecast is wrong and we will have some dry laps. And yes just take it easy and warm up the tires and have lots of fun. Look at it this way; you will use less fuel. At Mosport there is so much to learn even at low speeds in rain.

Driving in the rain at Mosport really sharpens your skills. Driving your car at 10/10th's at 7/10th's the speed. Still dangerous..don't kid yourself there. First time I did it, I was pretty nervous thinking that it would be really tough, started off very slow, and was surprised how fast you can really drive in the wet. Wet was an understatement for my first day...I had the wipers on HIGH because I needed them.

Wink no car

Stay on the track Chris, no funny stuff!

As you can see from the avatar, the car is gone, so I won't be joing you guys.

It looks like it could be like the last DE in september, which was lots of fun....1st run rain, 2nd run sun, 3rd run sun on front straight, pouring rain in corner 5 etc.

Enjoy, stay safe and I will see you next year in my turbo charged civic! LOL

And no pesky brake dust to clean up afterwards!

SOLD!

I delivered it to a fellow rennlister last Friday. It is going to be friends with his Ferrari. Great guy. I will let the new owner post when ready, but the car will still be making track appearances ...though I figure most of those will be in Quebec
