Mark,

Weren't you just mentioning the "slippery slope"?!

Would this be a contribution from any additional boost or wastegate issues?

I don't know, but we are trying to find the cause. My worst nightmare is replacing the units and having this happen again because we didn't get to the source of the issue.

The boost problem I had a couple of months ago was fixed with new diverter valves. The car was back to 1.2 bar and producing great power for the last while....

Before the boost issue was fixed, was it spiking?

The car did hit 1.4 bar occasionally. Would you call this a spike and a potential symptom of some greater issue?

After a few years on tha GT3 forum, I have learnt that all mods and upgrades are done in the name of safety.

I'll guess that it compressed (or, tried to compress) something other than air.

Hard to say. I think this was a combination of a few other things to. Do you know if the shaft had excessive play, was the turbo seal leaking oil, making the car smoke occassionally? Looks like the shaft broke, this usually forsn't happen out of the blue.

Imo000 - There was no obvious warning signs. No smoke, full 1.2 bar, powerful and running at consistent lap times all morning. Just before things went bad, I was turning a bunch of laps in the 1:34s. In the end, it might just be the fact that is is an 8 year old car frequently being pushed to the limit.
