A bit or research on the Rennlist forum and voila, from "Macster" :
"Is the plastic hard or soft?
If hard it can be a piece broke off from one of the camchain guide rails. These (aluminum) are protected with a composite plastic covering. The plastic is hard. And there are two colors, a light brown (caramel colored) and a darker almost black brown.
If the plastic is soft, and the fact the engine was just worked on, this could very well be from the sealant that is used."

There are headers on there but I assumed they were stock. Are the factory ones cast?

All the plastic pieces are hard and most are dak borwn and one large piece is black and curved. They all look to me part of the timing chain guides, or pads and not seals from a bearing. Clive was over today, brought me some good reading on the IMS issues and he saw the pices too.

I think I've answered my own question. If these are the stock parts then, what this car has are not stock.

Depending how curved it is, it could be the IMS bearing cover. See photo below:

Sorry I wasn't clear, it's curves like the top of a chain tensioner pad, not like the seal of a bearing.

Really if someone can bring there old ims on Saturday I can show it to imre to compare. Also does anyone have the bearing removal tool?. I am with imre and it looks like guide. But remember a busted ims bearing will hammer those guides with slap. I can't wait for a look once the engine comes out.

Imre I'm heading over with more reading

https://rennlist.com/forums/8756453-post1.html are some pix of my 2000 car, which AFAIK has bone stock exhaust system and match the parts diagram, yours certainly look aftermarket.

Well now the question is what are they then? I guess it would make sense the exhaust has been replaced at some point at that milage.

They look old so it wasn't replaced recently.
