fister exhaust anyone?
hi guys, my car is a 99 c4. just installed the fister mufflers from fd motorsports.
just wondering if anyone has one installed their 996?
the mufflers sound a little different from the video clips i've seen in youtubes.
everyone says they love the sound but im not so sure.
i'd like to know if there is any difference.

I think it's really hard to judge an exhaust note solely off youtube clips. The
accuracy of sound really depends on the microphone used to record it, what
compression the files went through in post production and what type of
speakers you're hearing the note from...
I bet they sound amazing! But it's such a subjective thing...Worst case, sell the
barely used cans to someone that digs the sound. I've never heard the Fisters
on a waterpumper...but if it's anything like my aircooler; I'd be in heaven!

I dont think I have heard any complaints from anyone that has installed them on rennlist. Like Torontoworker, I will be looking for someone else to do the install for mine, so interested in shops as well.

i know youtube video sounds vary depending on the recording device and whether it's indoor/outdoor.
but still there's some similarities in the sound.
my mufflers sound a little 'weak' or not as deeper as i hoped.
interestingly every post i read about fister mufflers were all positive as well.
i'm gonna live with it for couple of weeks and decide whether to keep it or sell it.

I put the Fister modded mufflers on my '02 and I'm very happy with them. I find they have a nice gutteral sound bipping the throttle at idle and when you get on the loud pedal they can really howl. At the same time they are quiet if you're easy on the gas and just cruising around neighborhoods. They are quieter than the full exhaust swaps (which is what I wanted), say like the Tubi's Zookie has.
...just my $.02.

I have them on my 99 c2...'fairly' quiet around the neighbourhood (although the wife says she can hear me coming about a block away)...get on the gas or drop a gear and it can get loud. I noticed a couple times last summer when on the highway, that when I was comin up beside someone with their windows down that if I was stuck beside them for any length of time that the windows would soon be up....once I was on my way, windows were back down.
I also noticed that they seemed to change tone as they got alittle bit older

I would be in to that. ! If you don't want to loose you knuckles removing siezed clamps etc I am sure your indy or any muffler shop can handle this. From what I have read, it is straight forward. I would do it myself, but a lift and patience are things i lack.

What is the diameter of the bypass pipe? The usual is 2" which gives the lower guttural sound. Some people mod with a 1" or 1.5" pipe which is reported to be quieter with less low end sound.
Over the winter I installed AWE headers and 200 cell cats plus I had 2" bypass pipes installed on my 997S. It's louder than I expected in combination with the cats. I like it but it's not for everyone.
I plan on attending this Saturday's GTG if anyone wants to hear it.

I installed them 2 years ago and am very happy.
After the install I thought I wanted something louder but kind of glad I didn't since I have the kids and wife in the car quite a bit.
What exactly do you not like about the sound? If I remember correctly he had a couple "stages" to pick from. Also, 3.4 vs 3.6.
