H&R Springs - To do or not to do
1.2 inch drop, should I do it? I've been reading and it's almost split down the middle. It is only for street driving but what I've heard (not sure if it's true), changing to H&R springs will wear out my suspection parts faster since they have to absorb more.. Also the ride being a bit more "bouncey". Excuse my lack of "car" terminology, I'm no expertise.

The spring rate should be increased to compensate for the reduced travel so the ride would be stiffer. It shouldn't be a problem for the dampers but it might be. Another issue in lowered cars is the increased angle of the tie rod which creates bump steer. Although for a 1" drop it's probably not noticable.

I have a set of H&R lowering springs and will be selling them once I install the Bilstein Damptronic suspension that I recently purchased.
If you want, you could take my 997 for a spin to see how you like them or even purchase the springs once removed. The spring are less them 5months old and I never drove my car during the winter. Cheers.

You can do springs alone but I would check the 997 forum.
I have 100k on my 996 with just springs but they also don't drop it to the extreme like you could get with a coilover. I have no issues other then the car is to low sometimes and the car still rides harsh as it did with stock shocks.

Installed h&R 2 years ago, car had less than 50k at the time. Ride isn't noticeably worse, rear end feels much more connected to the car. 25K later, had a full annual inspection at SCB ad there's no signs of adverse wear on the suspension components.

I have had ZERO issues with just the springs. I have PASM on the 911 and the ride is very composed and not harsh at all. Harsh is ONLY when I am in Sport mode. Sport mode is only engaged when I am approaching a steep driveway and need to stiffen the front end.
The reason why I have selected the Damptronics is for the SOLE reason that I am really picky on an exact ride height at every corner

I have the H&R lowering springs and the improvement was close to amazing. A 1" or so drop makes no difference on springs/suspension longevity. Just a lot of misinformation being spread. I spent a lot of time talking to engineers at H&R regarding these things and they dialed the car in with stock suspension and it's designed for that. They say messing around with the suspension components etc. will just destroy the handling they achieved.
