You are correct the officer was shot through the hand and J.S. brother was shot in the face! He is still in jail pending trial........

Unless they recorded him bragging about the incident it would never hold up it court, would be treated as hearsay (unfortunately).

Certain types of hearsay are admissable. The other kids wouldn't have to testify that JS committed the act, only that they heard him boast about it. That's perfectly acceptable in a Canadian court.
