Get the Beltronics STi or Escort Redline, you don't want to find out first hand about Spectre is being used in your area, as I did 8 years ago.

This topic might be better suited for a Sat GTG than a public forum.

That really is all I wanted to know. Thanks!

Just remember that if you are hit with a laser, (most of what's used these days), you have no time to react. A laser detector only works if you get direct hit...there is virtually no scatter. I used to have a Valentine years ago but have not used one for a long time. Laser is unavoidable.

I know that. Lasers are b/$%!
I don't have the guts to run a laser scrambler either.
So my goal is basically to avoid traps and automated Photo-Radars.

There is no photo radar in Ontario because (a lobbyist buddy of mine tells me) the OPP was worried about their members being nailed on and off duty. At least here's one for the OPP! There are no other saving graces.

If you care to chance the risks/consequences of speed or getting caught with devices that aid in your evasion here's what I'd suggest:

1. Laser jammer (I've had a blinder system in the past). It is always on and basically gives the gun a "--" reading. Simultaneously it beeps in the car to let you know you've been hit. You adjust your speed then switch the system off manual from an in-car switch to allow a normal reading from the gun.

2. An undetectable radar detector (I've had a BEL sti in the past). Pretty useless given the widespread use of laser in these parts but good for travelling to the US.

To be truthful, I did use these systems in the past, but longer do. No big story that stopped me from using them, just realized that my speeding is best done on the track. No preaching whatsoever - do as you will.

I'm no speeder. It's just that going too fast in a 911turbo is really easy and eventless.

Speeding rules in Quebec are crazy now. Anything over 160kmh is worth 10+points and 1000+$! I don't plan on going over 160kmh, but you know sometimes you downshifte a gear or two to pass another car and 160 is just there.

Plus they're adding a whole bunch of photo radar. You drive carefully at 119kmh and then you're hit with a stupid 132$ ticket.

I've had one back in the days, and never sped. But it saved my *** from many 120-130kmh tickets.

If you step foot into Ontario, there is only the Bel STi as suggested above. You'll get nailed quickly with anything else on any 400 series highway (there may be new models, I dont know).

My previous STi worked great when I used it. Drove by hundreds of OPP with Spectre units without issue.

Not so sure my previous jammer jammed any lasers when I used it, but its good for giving you a laser warning at least.

Not sure about "hundreds of OPP with Spetre units", I've kept my eyes open for them over the years and honestly have never seen one in OPP or Peel Regional Police cruisers which are known to have Spectre units, the one that got me was in a white marked OPP Suburban SUV.

Yes there are at least a couple more new stealth radar detectors out there now other than the STi Driver.

Hopefully you'll have more time in 2012 to join us at the track. TINS.
