Speeding rules in Quebec are crazy now. Anything over 160kmh is worth 10+points and 1000+$! I don't plan on going over 160kmh, but you know sometimes you downshifte a gear or two to pass another car and 160 is just there.

Plus they're adding a whole bunch of photo radar. You drive carefully at 119kmh and then you're hit with a stupid 132$ ticket.

I've had one back in the days, and never sped. But it saved my *** from many 120-130kmh tickets.
If you think its crazy in Quebec then dont get caught doing 155 on the 401 .. or you will be walking home ...

My previous STi worked great when I used it. Drove by hundreds of OPP with Spectre units without issue.

Not so sure my previous jammer jammed any lasers when I used it, but its good for giving you a laser warning at least.
+1 STi are undetectable. BEL Magnum replaces the STi Driver. Excellent choices.

Yesterday I saw a newly installed set of red light cameras in Burlington on Dundas at the corner of Brant St.

I don't mind red light cameras, people who are caught by red light camera deserves the ticket!

I almost got in a head-on collision last year when someone in the opposite directon accelerated towards the intersection as the light turned red while I was already in the intersection waiting for the left turn, I just started to turn as the light changed to red then realized this idiot was gunning to get through the intersection so I turned away to the right just in time to avoid the collion, in fact this idiot nearly lost control of his vehicle as he also swirved to his right to avoid me. This was not a "pink" light, this was full red!

I later checked with the Halton Police and they said I would not be at fault should he actually loose control and caused an accident because he entered the intersection on a red light, altough I'm not sure if I would still be "not at fault" if I did turn and ended up in a collision, in fact I am certain that's what happened with a friends' husband a number of years ago and he was found at fault and charged.

So, no symapty from me for red light runners!

i recently ran a red light Camera.. 325.00

my son was dicking around and distracted me when i looked up it was yellow. I could have totally gunned it and made it through on the yellow or at least entered on a yellow. I decided to brake and lose as much speed as possible and ended up entering the intersection .02 sec before it went red.

Oh well, i totally took responsibility as it was all my fault and understand. The extra time allowed me to check for traffic, if i had gunned it i would have avoided a ticket but it would have been far more dangerous.

It's my understanding that almost all OPP cars have Spectre units.

Apparently TO police have a few, but OPP is well equipped.

Ive seen a few myself but don't really pay attention to it anymore.

The Spectre units are not inexpensive so the police forces will have to nail a fair bit of RD users to justify the pay-back of spending the initial capital to purchase them, most (i.e. 98% or more I would guess) drivers don't use RD because it's illegal and carries a hefty fine, and now demerit points too, so I wold imagine there are very few RDs left to be caught, as well it's even harder now with the true "stealth" RDs from Bel and Escort.

I haven't read any new feature development for the Spectre for at least a couple of years now other than adding an extended horn to the antenna in order to increase the sensitivy, however there are no confirmed reports on radar user forums that any Beltronics STi or the Escort Redline or the other Escort stealth detectors being sniffed out by any Spectre units.

Peel Regional Police was known to have some Spectre units too, although again I have never seen a Spectre in any police cruisers myself including the OPP cars, that is except the one OPP SUV when it sniffed me out some 8 years ago.

There is an OPP constable in the eastern Ontario area who was known to have personally nabbed hundreds of RDs which he displays on the wall in the office, http://www.spectre-rdd.com/radar_wars.asp which claims 70 Spectre units are in use in Ontario, keep in mind this is old news I had read several years ago so hard to say if things have changed.

That's a tough one but you took it like a responsible adult, good for you.

Years ago I accidentally went through a red light in Houston while visiting my cousin there, she had just given birth a couple of months earlier but decided to bring her two year old son to our sight seeing in the area. I hadn't realized it was the red light until half-way sailing through the intersection, as with you I was also distracted by her conversation and the unfamilir looking horizontally placed traffic lights partially blended into the background of trees and buildings didn't help either.

It was one of the most sickening feeling I ever had in my drving career, especially with my cousin and her son in my car......., miraculously our little rental car went through this intersection somehow without being hit, maybe it was light traffic, maybe it was luck, maybe someone upstairs was looking out over us, I don't know.

I looked over at my cousin after we passed the intersection and her face was as ghosty white as a sheet of paper, my face was probably green, I will never forget how a few seconds of distraction could have easily turned very tragic that day 20 years ago, and I often think about that when I see how intellegent and successful of an young man her son has become today!!
