What should I do?
So the inevitable happened today... Minding my own business merging from Collector into Express on the 401 in my Guard Red cabriolet and out of nowhere an unmarked Crown Vic flashing its lights.
The guy wrote me up for how fast I was going - 142 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. At least he didn't insult me by asking whether I own the car.
So what do I do now? This is my first ticket in probably 6-7 yrs and my insurance company has first ticket forgiveness. Should I fight it with paralegal help? Should I try to do it on my own and hope for a reduced charge/fine?
Give me some words of wisdom please.

Did he tell how he observed your speed? BTW unmarked cars are getting more difficult to spot. This week i saw a silver grey Dodge Grand Caravan with blue/red lights flashing and a black Ford Flex with chrome trim and lights flashing

how did he spot you and radar you, were you near other traffic etc. if so i would fight it that is alot over, 8 more km/h and he wouldve had your car. Scary.

Oh yes. By your post I believe you have reason to doubt the accuracy of your observed speed and that's why you are making an inquiry.

Thanks for the response/support guys!
I was driving on the 401 EB, entered the Express lanes near Victoria Park, merge into Express lanes traffic and was caught near Warden, before the Kennedy exit to the Collector lanes.
It was a very short exchange with the Officer. I purposely made sure it was not memorable for him. It went something like this:
P- I am Officer XX from the Toronto Polic Service. You were driving at 142 km/h. I need your driver's license and insurance policy.
M- I am sorry officer, I must have got carried away. Can you give me a chance?
P- You want me to give you a chance? You were doing 142, weaving in and out and putting the public in danger, and your passenger in danger. Wait here.
After a few minutes.
P - Here is your ticket, you have 15 days to pay it. Is this your daughter?
M- Yes
P- I assume I don't need to tell you how to be a parent. Have a nice day.
The fine is $317 and there is no "R" on the ticket so I assume he didn't reduce my speed. I did not weave in and out, I merged into Express lanes traffic, changed over two lanes as required since I was on the right hand lane as opposed to the left hand lane entering the Express lanes. I had to pass the car on the left hand lane, and both the right and the left lanes terminate after entering the Express lanes.

I expect you can plea this down to 114 kph when you go to court on the trial date, a paralegal can go on your behalf.
A coworker was nabbed years ago doing 120 kph on a 50 kph zone, he used a paralegal who went on his behalf a couple of times, he eventually pled to 70 on a 50 zone. He was lucky especially when his wife never found out about this.

Toronto Police and not OPP?

If it's on 401 then it's 99.9% certain to be OPP, Metro *can* issue tickets for violations committed on 401 in GTA, but seldom do since that is OPP's sandbox.
