Yes, it was Toronto cop, not OPP.

I understand a conviction is a conviction. Having said that, since I supposedly have 1st ticket forgiveness and I really don't plan to get more tickets (yes, no one does) and I had a clean record for the last 6 yrs. I think I am just looking at spending less money. Unless of course someone can guarantee to get me off. Is that possible? As you can tell, I am a newbie.

If you are simply looking to save some $$, just show up in person yourself; no point in handing the money you saved to a paralegal. They will probably reduce speed/fine on the spot, and there will be no need to go to trial. It's worth the trip.

Good luck.

Wow, a Metro pulled you over on 401? That's bad luck.

A good paralegal knows all the tricks, 8 years ago my Beltronic got sniffed out by an OPP RDD and was issued a ticket, I went to court the first time on the assigned date on the summons and my name was not even on the list outside the courtroom, I was told by two paralegals there that I should not assume I just got off as they know of a similar circumstance where the individual was automatically convicted.

So I went to the Crown and set another court date, I went on that date and the OPP constable was not there because he was sent off on training last minute, one would assume I get off, right? Wrong, the Crown asked for a new court date despite my objection that this is already my second time taking time off workt to appear in court, the JP gave me the lame excuse that: "If you couldn't make the court date wouldn't you want to have another chance?", so I had to go to court the third time, and lost.

I often wondered if a good paralegal could have gotten me off under those particular circumstances.....

We all need to remember that budget pressures are being put upon our Metro Police. Cuts are one way to solve, another way is to increase revenue. I saw more cars pulled over yesterday than I have seen for some time. Perhaps a connection???

Depending on how long a period this covered, you could have probably filed an 11b or something, especially since in your case, they caused all the delays.

Waited for 30 minutes and was told that I will get a court date in the mail in 4-6 months. At least I can now save up for the fine - reduced or not.

Thanks for all the help guys! I am sure to resurrect this thread to ask for more help as the trial date is near.

Just plead it down yourself, if you go to court the officer is going to mention that you had a child with you and the judge will likely be difficult. I had a similar ticket with my daughter, although it was only 96 in a 60 in the country and the traffic ticket guys had a difficult time getting it down to 15 over because of my daughter being in the car.

Exactly, doing 140+ on any hwy is risky these days. I personally keep myself at 125/130 max, any more and they will not be giving breaks.

That's what track days are for.

From my experience, if you do less than 130-140 on the 407 at rush hour then you better not be in the fast lane as everyone is going that fast.

Just saying that I don't understand what "dropping paper on your lap" means

I think you quoted the wrong reply. I think What he means is more charges, like dangerous driving, reckless etc.
