Route 66
Ronan and I are in Rolla, MO on historic Route 66. We left Toronto this morning and had a beautiful drive through Sarnia, Ontario, Michigan, Illinois and Missouri, (MO). We clocked a respectable 900 miles (1,400 km) today towing a Trailex trailer with a strapped-in SL500 behind a Porsche Cayenne S and burnt 80 gallons of fuel in the process.
We’re moving two large dogs and the Merc to their winter home in Scottsdale, AZ so why not grab a little iconic road trip along the way? I’ve heard and read about historic Route 66, commissioned in 1926 for years. It starts in Chicago, IL and ran all the way across the country to Los Angeles, CA. It has always been the quintessential road trip for fans of our favorite fossil fuel, but now it’s almost all gone. The new modern highway system commissioned in the ‘50’s and ‘60’s all but obliterated the old route and today it's mostly bypassed and over-grown with only short remnants remaining. We’re out to find a few of those and grab a piece of history before it’s all gone, forever.

Route 66 - Day 2
Hey Danny, Adamant1971 answered the first question and as for the Blues, well Route 61 might be another trip, but we’re on Route 66 for this one.
We did a lazy 600 miles today stopping here and there and snapping shots. It’s gear-head’s paradise. Remnants of Rte 66 are littered with restored, iconic symbols of the age of mobility, yet much of it is buried, by-passed and long forgotten by the commuters and travelers on I40.
We were on the road from dawn to dusk. Oklahoma City was our reserved over-night stop but with the day one progress we were cancelling the original reservations and making them much further down the road. Night two was in Amarillo, TX, 5 hours further west.
The Big Texan Steakhouse in Amarillo offers up a free 72-ounce steak dinner if you can eat it all, with the standard fixings. Four tried that night - none made it…
Cheers,

I drove the route on the way out to LA years ago.....I'm old enough (barely) to remember the namesake TV show and I heard the theme song in my head much of the way.....
