Mine was a breeze in August. Had all the paper work , copies of my wire transfer , no issues on Canadian side. US side was indifferent and cold , but who cares. they stamped the title, thats all i needed.

In Vancouver the Police used to be instructed to automatically impound a US vehicle if the owner was not in it and the driver was Canadian. Apparently the moment a Canadian is driving a US vehicle without the owner present the car is subject to duty.
Once I was in the US and my flight was cancelled. Went to Hertz and rented a car. At the border Customs essentially said the same thing. Car should have been duty paid. They indicated I was to drive directly to Hertz at the Airport in Vancouver and turn the car in or it could be seized!
Not sure if this is still applicable but it does make sense. Not fair, just correct.
