Allen at Simply Tire has recommended (or at least offers) a 997 turbo replica rim for my C4S for a winter setup (8x18 and 10x18). He hasnt been able to identify the manufacturer but suggests they are Asian made. He buys them from various distributors and not directly from the manufacturer. They retail for $950
I know some people favour OEM but these are for winter and wont see the track. OEM are obviously much more expensive
Anyone have experience with these type of rims?
Thanks

hmmm...i wonder if that's what he'll recommend to me too.
oem widebody wheels are 18x11...but if the offsets are correct it should be fine. for winter, i have no problem using replicas...i used cheap "rial" branded rims for my bmw for two winters and they held up fine.

My brother had a set of replica M3 rims on his old 750 and one the rear ones bent without any real effort. If these rims are on the soft side, they might be a problem.

It will only take a small chip in the paint for winter salt to get underneath the paint and start oxidizing the aluminum and bubble up the surrounding area, then the corroded surface in contact with the tire bead can fail to maintain 100% seal, seen it happen a few times including my first which became my last set of aluminum winter rims.
Unfortunately I don't think I've ever noticed steel rims on 996, they may be out there and will be stronger and more appropriate for the beating winter climate dishes out.

Install using original Porsche lug hardware and center cap. They will take OEM sensors as well.

Thanks Damon, but these are not OEM correct? The debate seems to be between the quality of replicas/aftermarket (whatever you want to call them) vs OEM. I know the OEM's are better quality but for a winter rim are replicas (all made in China it seems) sufficient. Many people will say No under any circumstances (although these are the same guys that buy OEM for everything) but it seems that they have worked fine for others
I have seen your rims on your website but for an equivalent price i can get aftermarket locally which is just easier to deal with for me
