Default 6th Gear tomorrow at Mosport

Just wondering who's going. Looks like it'll be my one and only trip to Mosport this year.

I'll be there tomorrow. The day will probably be well attended because the next 6th Gear is not until October 5th and the forecast looks perfect.

Unhappy

I'm bummed....this day was originally scheduled for Sept. 6 so I planned on coming then--didn't catch the schedule change...... I'll kill the pain by driving the Glen on the 5th!

Well, it was an eventful day, to say the least. First time I've ever seen someone leave the track due to injury (or possible, at least). And to make matters worse, it was my dad. They took him to the Bowmanville hospital to check him out, just to be safe. He's fine, just a bit sore in the shoulder and back, and he bit his tongue pretty badly. I joked that we should put a piercing in there to remind him

He was driving beyond his abilities, and went wide in 3. The the car came around, crossed the track and hit the inside wall at about 45 degrees. I'm pretty sure it's a write-off. I was as angry as I was worried. We'd talked about that in the past, but I guess it didn't get through. Funny how roles can reverse sometimes - I felt like a dad talking to his son.

I've always said that one of the advantages of driving a 140 hp car is that I have nothing to prove - I'm the slow guy out there, plain and simple. There's not even a chance of keeping up with everyone else, so I just drive to have fun, and to improve against myself.

I know it's a bit taboo to talk about accidents at the track, but this one hit pretty close to home, obviously. It's true what they say that you need to think with your upper head. The ambulance lady said almost all the times they have to go out is at lapping days, not racing events.

Be careful out there, guys. Mosport is dangerous. Just ask the bike lapping guys.

Sorry to hear about the mishap. Glad that no one got seriously injured. Hope your dad gets better soon.

Ah that really sucks but it sounds like he will be okay, which is the most important thing.

Look at it this way, I came around that corner to see my friend and his F360 Stradale in that wall.

Sorry to hear about the news.

But it is great that you and your dad do these things together.

No, Corvette Z06. He sold the turbo last year.

Airbags were disabled, because there's a 5-point harness in the car.

I talked to him for a while last night - I think he'd been "self-medicating" a bit He's feeling fine, just the shoulder. He'll be back at work today, even though I suggested he take a day or 2 off.

He moved the wall a couple inches - you can see the gap in the 2nd pic (looking down from above the wall).

Same story, driving beyond abilities? That's a VERY expensive lesson. At least a Z06 is replaceable. A Stradale is a little bit less so.

Sorry to hear about your Dad, you were just saying to me a week or two ago that he was headed into the wall if he continued pushing it. Glad he is ok, he's specially lucky it wasn't worse since he was driving the Vette.

Yes same story. Pushing too hard.

I read it as he was in your 140hp car and wrote that off.

Z06 is a tough one to swallow too.

My friends insurance covered the almost $100k in damage BTW. I've had two friends write their street cars off in the Big Track and both were covered (although those were not recent). The f360 wasn't a write off tho.

That conversation was the first thing I thought of. Strangely, and unfortunately, prophetic.

See, that's the thing. He wouldn't have fun in a 140hp car, because it's too slow, whereas for me that's half the fun. He and I just have such a different mentality about track driving.

This will go through insurance as well. Apparently the Ontario supreme court recently decided that non-competitive driving events cannot be excluded from an insurance policy, even a special policy like Silver Wheels. I asked him to send me the decision - I'll post once I get it.
