It's a blatant bullsh*t cash grab. Why spend $500 if you can get a letter for free
in the US?

And the question was "is it true that its only $500 for all of those things".

Ive been told that once the car is here, Porsche knows that you need that letter and then they charge you THOUSANDS to Canadianize it - and they wont give you the letter unless you do that through Porsche. Seems that that is at minimum no longer true.

But yes, the letter is free in the US.

My seller obtained the no recall letter and job management printout without any issues. I made that as part of the deal .

No, if the reality is that they'd charge $500 for the letter, cert, etest and whatever else, plus $312 for the lights, that is not horrible.

It is not as good as $0 for the letter and $50 for the lights, plus whatever cert and etest cost, but it is not the complete reaming that people used to *complain about*, especially considering that the lower cost path is no more effort.

I have heard horror stories as I am sure you have.

Why pay $500 when you can pay $0?

Someone at the gtg (wish i could remember who) a few years ago said something to me that really stuck. He was talking about fixing something with his car, or upgrading something, but didn't want to spend the money. I discreetly pointed out that wasn't exactly a pauper. He said yeah, but I didn't get there by throwing money away. Very sage advice.

$500 is peanuts.

For a Maserati ... if someone (foolishly) did not get a recall letter from stateside and got the vehicle into Canada he has no choice but to go to dealership in Canada.

Here is the breakdown of what needs to be done:

$3500 recall letter
$750 module for DRL
$1250 to install
$7500-10000 change instrument panel to suppurt KMs

For the more educated and experience ones:
Letter from US dealership that states car has no recalls - usually free or a few hundred
DRL fix $350
make sure dash has both miles and kms

Imported my car from Florida last summer, took it to the dealer, to do the drl charged me $60, a lot less than I was quoted here, had a letter on Porsche letter head but RIV would not accept, called the same FL dealer and sent me the computer print out, no charge. Prior to going down I called DFC and told me $500 just for inspection plus whatever they deemed necessary, to me a cash grab and they do not get my business. Would do it again in a heartbeat, 911 is next

I hope everyone with 997s equipped with Sport Chrono know that they DRLs can be switched on through the PCM and they aren't the ones paying a fee to have the DRLs turned on...

Bio Banker - Greetings from Calgary! You and I spoke a long time ago about your previous car and your 'banana' car... PM if you need any advice or assistance with this one...

I had us dealer provide me with the recall letter and also did the Canadian conversion for less than $200. Import experiences vary widely depending on who you run into it seems. I had no issues on this side of the border.
