I drop off spent oil at Halton Waste Management on Bronte Rd in Oakville. I use a $3 20 L pail for spent oil. I think they'll take your filter at the hazardous waste drop as well. I put the empty new containers in the blue box.

halton also partners with Canadian Tires in Burlington and a auto place here in Oakville to collect spent oil if you don't want to go to the dump.

Even if you put it in the grey bin, a little oil is no different than all the paint tins and other toxic stuff that is disposed that way. And if by chance you're an enviro weenie, you're polluting driving your garbage when it could be picked up.
City of Toronto doesn't pick up empty oil containers as part of their household hazardous materials list. Hence why I asked for insight in the first place. Pitching the containers into my blue box blindly or the garbage isn't an option. And no, I'm not an "enviro weenie" ~ just trying to be a descent human being and make a conscious effort to dispose of this stuff properly.

I'll just take them to my nearest OrangeDrop or up to the dump. Sorry I asked!

Just trying to save you guys some time but you should do what makes you feel warm 'n fuzzy. It all ends up in landfill.

The guys at the Halton waste mgmt. station told me I should bring the used oil filters in the future at the same time, as they will crush them to squeeze out the old oil within.

Old water cooler jugs are great. Just don't go with two full ones like I did in the spring. They took them but not after giving me the 20L speech.

You should have given them the "Fine, next time I'll dump 'em down the sewer and it'll save me the time I waste driving here" speech.

Just checked Waterloo limits for kicks (bored to tears in an all day meeting) 25 litre limit used motor oil per household per month and please no 5 gallon pails lol. I really don't understand the rationale as used oil recycling companies would be more than happy to pick up that liquid gold on a very regular basis with their tank trucks.

I go to the hazardous waste disposal in Newmarket. A 5 gallon plastic gas can is what I bring the oil in and they dump it out and give me my container back. They take the empties and filters too.

The Cambridge dump never said they had a limit. Most I ever took was 120L. The collected oil is sold, just like they sell the paper, metal everything else that goes in separate bins.

Get a 12 litre Wedco , simple drain in, simple pour out at depot, no mess not fuss. Best home garage oil change tool I ever bought. Hands down the best.
