well the story goes, the guy in the flipping Subaru borrowed the car from his Buddy. The buddy borrowed the car from his brother... get it?

There was also a 11 second Honda that flipped over at the 1/4 Mile Track that day, 5 mins after this crash...

Not a lot of helmets in that video. Who was the organizer?

I do find it pretty amusing that no one swears. The videographer (who did an impressive job of keeping the car in frame!) just says "My word!"

Edit: I guess a couple of people do swear. Also, who are all these dumb kids?

Makes me wonder who the insurance carrier for both the track and organizer are?! It is so easy to collapse a roof onto a driver or passengers head in a non-track car. Note the people without helmets getting out of cars and without looking run up track... (To do what to whom without training?)

Madness.

That's the first ever roll-over I've heard of at TMP. Yeah, he was way too hot and clearly wasn't getting the grip he needed for that speed, and combined with the body roll, tells me the car isn't track-prepped. But still, I think a lot of bad luck was mixed in with that incident. I mean really, what are the chances that you hit a hay bale and/or vertical concrete wall at that kind of angle and roll the car? It's really no different than the divider on the 401.

Torontoworker, I attended an event at Mosport a few years back that didn't require helmets. Now that's madness! I don't think the helmet thing is a huge issue at TMP, *however* I think the spectator thing *is* a huge issue at TMP. I'm sure you've seen the explosive energy dissipated when a car hits a wall; the last place I'd want to be is where those folks are standing!

I'd like to think that when I wipe out, someone can think of something to say other than, "My word, I got that all on video."

On second thought, maybe I can think of worse things....

The fellow in the red integra looked out of place, it looked like he and his lady friend were driving to the corner store to get milk then they both got out and made a bee-line for the subaru - he even put on his hazard lights.

I took a closer look at the footage (23 -24 seconds mark) and if I'm not mistaken, it looks like the guy was running R compound tires (or possibly bald summer tires, even worse). Judging by the body roll, the car didn't look track prepared. So, whats he doing on R compounds. He's either a very experienced guy you simply lost it or an idiot.

I think the above factors all contribute, but I suspect part of the problem was the placement of the bales of hay, which, as they came apart, turned into a launching ramp.

The bales may have been placed there for bikes and not removed? If your going to do hay bails for cars you put them in position where the driver blows his corner entry and goes straight off and the bails absorb a head on impact. The placement for bikes is a little different and a little down track to take care of the high-sides where the rider tumbles and bounces up into a hay bail instead of concrete. I think they either had a mixed bike/car day or someone got lazy and left them there after a bike event. The people at the wall freak me out. They have no concept of what can happen. It's not like there are a whole group of Pat Long's lapping out there - him I trust!
