Default 996 tt to 997c4s, anyone make this move?

Has anyone here made the move from a 996tt to a 997c4s? If so, looking for some insight.

TIA

It would be quite a downgrade.

i think it all depends on how you use the car, and what 996tt is it? turbo? turbo s? modded?

My preference would be to keep the 996 TT. Have you test driven the 997 yet? Personally I find that with the 997 you lose quite a fair bit of the sports car feel. All of them right from the base C2, up to the TT S, I find them to be too comfortable. Whatever you may gain in straight line performance, cornering, and technology, I find you lose in your feeling of being one with the car. For lack of better terms, I find the 997s to feel like Cadillacs when compared to 996s.

Not to take anything away from the amazing machines that they are, and the optional PDK is guaranteed to put a smile on your face if you are looking at that as a possible route, but that is merely my ~preference~. I guess it depends what you're looking for. With the 996 TT's bodystyle starting to get outdated, the 997 will definitley have more presence to it, and if you need one or the other for a daily driver then perhaps the 997 will be a wiser choice as it will be a newer vehicle with less mileage I assume (or, brand new) and not having to worry about a single thing for the next 4 years is always a plus!

That being said, if you just want something as more of a weekend toy on the street or on the track, I would 100% keep the 996 TT and hang on to my money. Truth be told though even for a daily driver I'd be willing to take that slight risk of having more downtime with the 996 and having to pay for repairs. The 997s feel more like luxury cruisers that can still go like stink, than ***** to the wall sports cars like a 996 TT does. To me anyway

P.S. If you are interested in getting rid of the 996 TT, I'm in the market for one so feel free to PM me with details.

I would think a downgrade. Depends on what you are wanting though.

I had an 03 996TT last year. Great car, too fast for daily driving. My 08 C4S Targa is a better, more comfortable DD.

+1..............Both wonderful cars Steve? but why would you want to move to less power and assume potential IMS/RMS risks?

Oh ya, that's right 'eh. I've never bought a new sports car and tend to keep 'em way beyond any thoretical warranty period. Still, go down in power for a warranty?? I can see a 997 Turbo upgrade............

Looking more for a cosmetic update both interior/exterior. The 996tt is plenty fast but since I don't track my car, I really never get to enjoy it on the streets without having to worry about losing my license. 997 tt is a great suggestion Ronnie, but also a big step up price wise for me. Thanks to all the above for the recommendations. I'll probably go test drive one this weekend just to compare.

Three years (March 08) ago when I was going from a 911SC to a newer Porsche I started out looking at new 997 S's (cab only). Went to one dealer who also had an '04 996 TT Cab. The decision over which to get became instant and went with the 996 TT. I've never regretted that decision. Much faster and more fun to drive. This ignores the fun factor. I did get 2 year warranty also which sweetened the deal.
