Just saw a cayman on a tow bed with a cop at Gardiner/Islington. Probably got busted over 150km. Seems to be a hot spot as I saw a mercedes C63 in the same situation a month ago. Hopefully the cayman tonight isn't anyone on this forum.

Ottawa area just announced a blitz on speeding.
I was 'accused' of speeding by an airplane on the 401. I initially thought it was a joke but alas 'tis true.... they have airplanes!

They do keep painting the markers for airplane speed spotters.
If you see a perpendicular stripe every 200 meters by the shoulder you can be clocked by an airplane.
It's a guy with a stopwatch nothing more than that.
If you don't see those stripes they can't measure your speed from an airplane unless they use military grade tracking systems. Not enough speeders to pay for those.

Oh, I see plenty of stripes and marks for this purpose, but I can't see why they would use airplanes. An officer is still needed on the ground in order to issue the ticket so the airplane just decreases the net revenues taken in.
...and revenue is the entire purpose of speed enforcement.

All I know is that some guy on a motorcycle pulled me over as he was getting onto the highway and told me that an airplane clocked me at 141 and the he couldn't even reduce the fine because he wasn't the charging officer, just the issuing officer. GRRRRRRR

The airplane enforcement thing is a spendy option and doesn't pay for itself even with the cheap stopwatch method.
I don't see the tickets themselves as a great source of revenue. Running a police cruiser and paying full officer salary is not cheap and he/she can't be writing tickets constantly.
Toys like airplanes are used to justify budgets in the name of "safety".
I notice that among many police officers and many members of the public it's the speed itself that is viewed as a vice. It's not necessarily unsafe driving but speed. If someone somewhere is having fun those types of people can't rest. It's like sex, drugs, and alcohol. Yes, all of them can be done in a way that is dangerous to the participant and others around. Just like driving faster. So they are treated like evil things by many.

Wanna go fast? Hit the track and find out how slow you really are.

Blind blaming of speed for all safety problem is treating it like drugs or alcohol.
Going 150 by a playground is dangerous. Going 150 on the 401 by Cornwall is much safer than going 110 on the 401 by Yonge.

How many innocent people get hurt by someone going faster on the 401 when the conditions are favorable (no traffic, good weather, etc.)?
