Default Switched from PS Cups to Supersports on RS.1

I though about this for a while, and it seems redundant to have two cars with unpleasant heavy weather handling. I find the cups to be just murderous if there is any kind of standing water around, so I thought it might be interesting to try the new SuperSports ( thanks Ilker for getting them quickly).

To be honest, driving the Cups in heavy rain is just beyond my skill level and not in the least enjoyable, so I think this will be more practical. I will leave the other car on Cups or equivalent.

Evidently they will not have the track performance of a warm Cup tire ,but at least I have an option if the weather is crap. First impressions is that they actually ride a bit harder than the Cup in regular driving, but I am eager to see how they work in rain.

Tread is radically different, a bit more like the ContiSports on my M6.

Here are shots of both tires. I have been through three sets of Cups on 17,000km, admittedly with some hard driving, so we will see how these work

Hopefully it will make conditions like this a bit easier

Good stuff! Next you'll be putting snow tires on the green monster and using it as your winter beater!

Well...I am certainly not putting hight speed tires on the Cayenne.
The SuperSports are getting very good reviews, and are standard on the 458 Italia among others, so they are reasonably highly rated. We will see.

if they make it in 325 rears I'll buy a set already.

the cups are really limiting my driving in Vancouver, we just have too much rain.

looking forward to your first track report.

After reading this, to me it sounds like its on par with the 19" PS cups. We do know that 18" MS cups and N Rated 19" cups are totally different shoes right.

New Michelin Supercar Tyre Shaves 5 seconds off a 2.7 Kilometre Lap

In track testing at a 2.7 kilometre circuit in Germany the new Michelin Pilot Supersport shaved 5 seconds of lap times set by its predecessor, the Pilot Sport 2.

The tyre was developed using the experience of 13 consecutive Le Mans wins - the ultimate test of a tyre's performance in both wet and dry conditions as well as of its longevity.

It replaces the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 and offers the wet grip of the Pilot Sport 3. So it’s as quick as a Pilot Sport Cup with better wet surface water displacement.

Here is the first track note I got from Pistonheads:

Quote:

I have just done a track day at Spa for the first time with Super Sports fitted to my RS.

They are very good especially in the wet/damp but when dry the Cups are , in my opinion, in a different league to the Super sports.

Yes I heard the same thing when people compare the 18" cups to the new N rated 19" cup. Wonder which Cup he was referring to.

I wonder how they compare to the Bridgestone RE50's.

First track day on Supersports was at Calabogie on June 23 with my 3.4 L 996 cab. Track conditions were damp in the am and dry in the pm. These tires replaced my second set of Yokohama Neova AD 07s.
Comparing the two tires is tough as the Yokohamas were well trashed after 1.5 seasons.
Road comfort is substantially improved over the AD07s although I understand that the AD08s are better.
Grip on damp track was great although Calabogie is a high grip wet track. One thing I did notice was that they were much more sensitive to pressure than the AD07s.....much understeer appearing at the end of the first session. I checked temps and fronts were at 42 hot..dialed them back to 34/38 hot and no issues from then on.
Dry grip was great with very precise turn-in and not much tire noise. I did change rear size from 285-30 to 265-35 as the 285s are not available yet. I found the car better balanced and easier to rotate with the smaller rear tire size...with only 300 HP, I really don't need more rear tire.
I purchased them from Braidan Tire and installed price was equivalent to Tirerack purchase plus installation.
As this is the 8th set of tires in 85,000 km, I'm interested in seeing how many times I can use the 55,000 km front and 27,500 km rear tread warranty.
Too bad Yokohama has abandoned their track test program as I would really like to experience AD08s vs Supersports back to back.
Calabogie on July 6th for more fun and testing.

Your Warranty would probably be Void because you are running the Wrong Size Tires on your Car... But i guess that depends on your relationship with your Tire Shop. not sure...

Zookie
As my car is a narrow body, the correct size is the 265-35 tire. BTW, I really noticed a difference with my Wevo motor mounts at Calabogie..

I saw your car at EU when I was getting my new front rotors and Pagid Blue pads installed.....I did wonder what you were up next to but I was told it was only an alternator repair
